THE TWO WITHNESSES AND THE WORD OF FAITH
“It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.”(John 8v17-18)
Many laws and ordinances in the Old Testament are types of a true relationship in the New Testament or the new covenant. Here in the scriptures quoted above, our Lord quoted a scriptures from the old covenant which is “The testimony of two men is true “. Then He spoke about himself being one of the witness, and the father that dwell in Him, as the other witness making it two witnesses.
Now the Law states “the testimony of two men is true “but that does not necessary mean in practical experience in the Law that the testimony of every two men was true. Because the law already states that “thou shall not bear false witness”. This is confirming the fact that all the other two men who act as a witness in the Law to confirm truth where imperfect and bound to bear false witness. They were only a picture of the relationship of certain two men to come whose testimony will always be true. The Father, son relationship is the fulfillment of this prophetic Law. The son was one of the witness and the father that dwells in him the other witness, making them the two truthful witnesses. The lord clearly indicate in the scripture “If I bear witness of myself , my witness is not true . There is another that bear witness of me , and I know the witness which he witnesses of me is true” (John5v31-32).
The Lord spoke of John as a third witness of Him, but he helped us see that there is a greater perfect witness which is the fathers. The witness of the father was the only final prove that the testimony is true; any other witness was only a kind of compliment. The only ground that a testimony is true is the father and Son agreeing in one.
THE WORD OF FAITH
“That if you will comes with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead ,you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness , and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation “ (Roman 10v9)
If Christ is our pattern ,and through His blood we partakes in His power to become Sons of God, as saith the scriptures, then all our works and ways must be testify by the father, as the second witness or we will be found to be false witnesses. In Romans 10v 9 as quoted from above, we have the heart and the mouth, agreeing in one before there comes salvation. The heart is the organ, which describes the place where the father, who is one with the WORD, dwells. If the Word dwells in the heart then the father also dwells in the heart because both are one. This is the place within our being where spiritual illumination, understanding, and revelation are given.
The witness we receive from the father is given within our hearts, and then we confess this witness in agreement by our mouth to receive salvation. Not only salvation to become part of Gods family, but also salvation from anything that is not of God and against our freedom in Christ. The Word of faith only work as the heart (father) cooperates with the mouth (the vessel).
The heart and the mouth are the two witnesses, where the fathers in the heart and the Sons or vessels by the mouth agree in one. “But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that is the WORD OF FAITH which we preach “ (Roman10v8).
The Word of faith does not begin from the mouth but from the heart as the witness is received from the father. When we confess anything just by our mouth without receiving the witness within our hearts, then that is just the testimony of one witness and therefore our words will not be established. When we do works, preach, confess etc unless we are receiving this witness from the heart imparted by the father we are only false witnesses whose works are works of death and so must be unfruitful.
THE TWO WITNESSES IN REVELATION CHAPTER ELEVEN
“And I will give [power] unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. ….These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.”(Revelation11v3,6 read all through for reference)
The two witnesses in revelation 11 are represented as if two men in a literal sense, but let us not forget the fact that, the book of revelation like the Old Testament is full of types. We have many types like lamb, beast, waters, women, horses, swords, etc in the book which does not mean in the literal sense. Also in the new testament our Lord as quoted from the discussion above related His relationship with the father as a fulfillment of the two men whose witness are true.
“It is written in you Law the testimony of two men is true. I am one who bear witness of myself , and the father who sent Me bears witness of me” (John 5v17-18). We can see though the Law spoke of men, yet these men are a picture of the father who is not a man, in a literal sense and the son. These two witnesses represent the Sons, who have become one with the father through union, working and co-laboring together in His vineyard. In revelation 11 v6 we are told they have power to strike the earth with plaques as they will. Which prophet had ever spoken a word as He wills independent of the father? Which prophet will be so mature, that He will no longer need the father to speak to His heart before He speaks? It will not be fruitful, for the word must be established by the testimony of the two men. So hope we can see that these two witnesses are a wittiness speaking in a witness. What comes from the mouth of the instrumental witness (the mouth) is what is being placed by the will of one of the witness, who is the father or the Word in the heart.
Caution to Heed
As sons of God we have to know that we must work by the second witness in all we do, if our work will be found fruitful. We must also know that the two witnesses must agree before the word become establish. Also we should know the one thousand two hundred and sixty days in revelation 11v3 represents the seasons of visitations. The father Has specific seasons for specific things but it will take agreement between the two of us .If we did not collaborated with the father in the days of our prophesy or days of visitation, we will shut the heavens against men, because the two witness must agree in one before the heavens, becomes open for the rain of power, strength, comfort and personal or community revival etc to come.
For example the Father Has given a general witness for us to intercede for the Lost and for one another , we must agree with Him in that line if we are going to see our love ones, friends, neighbors etc come into his saving knowledge. Many times He does nothing in the days of our prophesy or visitation because there is no agreement on our part to His witness. This is why we are told to pray for our enemies and desire their good. It is because if we do not agree in one with the father to pray for those who despitefully use us and persecute us we will shut the doors of heaven against them, which will be a curse. There are things the father will not do, until we agree with Him for the word to be established.
If we are going through hard times, we will have many ways to justify our fret, worries, anxiety, anger, unforgiveness etc but until we agree with the second witness of the word of faith, imparted by the father in us, to surrender and Leave all in His hands, ceasing from our own understanding the word of His rest, joy and peace will not be established in us. There is a general witness from the father on our need to pray always, so that we might escape the daily evils of the world .If we did not agree on this part, as a second witness, we will not partake the power and the grace which comes as we humble ourselves before His face in prayers.
In Revelation 11v 7 we are told that after their testimony, the two witnesses were killed and those who dwell on the earth rejoice and send gifts to one another because they tormented them. But what happen after three and a half days? We found the breath of Life enter them and they stood up and ,fear fell on those who dwell on the earth as they saw them ascend in a cloud to heaven. There are times the father uses power to overcome the enemy, but there are times He uses weakness to overcome the enemy. We are not to choose which way to go but the father way. During our Lord ministry on earth no one was able to touch Him and no power was able to resist Him. Yet on the cross though He was still sinless, the power that ruled all power ceases to work for a greater purpose. If His enemies had known this was to bring about a higher power and influence they will not had crucified Him. Look the influence on Pentecost after the resurrection, and even to date and forever it will continues amidst all adversity and opposition.
Many times the Father will not use the power that work external to vindicate us but weakness. When our enemies including our carnal self, have done all that they can do, thinking we are dead in the bed of discouragement, anxiety and afflictions then suddenly found us afresh rising above the level they saw us; fear then enter their hearts and if they are human enemies a possible door of salvation will be open for them to join us in our union with the father, because of the testimony they witness in us. In the heart of each of us as Sons of God, is another witness, who if we listen and heed will establish ever word from our mouth. Amen.
