Need scripture / advice

OK, I have an odd one here.

I had this very specific thought about the local body I'm going to for church, it's a very on fire for the Lord church.

The thought is that I see the 'angel of light' attacking the church this way at this 'local to me church' (I'm not saying the church as a whole) -- He is working among parts of the body, (I know our battle is not against flesh and blood) to 'trying to'in a sense 'be (or take the place of) the holy spirit' to others in the church. "When did the Lord call you to be my Holy Spirit?" was the specific thought.

I know the idea seems a bit strange as our call as a church is to edify and sharpen each other, but the deceiver is cunning in disguise; the line here is like splitting hairs in discerning. It's almost as though a little too much is being done in the name of 'discipleship'

What I need is some scripture to help go to the leaders of the congregation.

First and foremost prayer would be most appreciated as well in this!

hi, we are coomanded to make disciples...i would never go to leaders in the church with an attitude and a list of bible verses if it an on fire type fellowship but instead i would asked humbly for a moment of time or an appointment and then humbly and tactfully voice what i felt in the spirit that bothered me.40 years ago ,the asst.pastor was teaching a sunday school lesson (i ministered with him often in starting other churches and meetings)he said that the devil sought to kill moses for his sons uncircumcision.where upon i stood up and told him the bible said it was God and argued correctly,completely disrupting the class. God spoke to me and told me that even tho i was right ;i had a wrong attitude and was not wise in the way i handled the the situation.jimp

Soulrider, You are in good company here. Concerns over church leadership have often been expressed. But let’s admit, it’s easier to see what the leader is doing than how the rest of the people fit into the picture. When you have overfunctioning in leadership, there is going to be some underfunctining on the part of the Body too. I think that’s quite typical of church life – and a hint that a congregation is not as “on fire” as it may perceive itself. It’s important for you to know that there is a lot more going on than you are aware of which bear on the concerns you see – like the way the people function together, the denomination as a whole, what theologians, trends they follow, etc.

I would support jimp’s caution: Refrain from taking an arsenal of bible verses to the leadership. Chances are, it will be counterproductive. But still – there is something very pro-active that you can do: Strive towards becoming strong in your faith yourself – through your own submission to God, your own biblical studies, and so forth. Be a servant to the people as you are able. Over time build friendship with people, families or leaders – have them over for a meal, etc.

As you build trust you may have an opportunity to share your concerns in a way that is inclined to be respected as valid. But generally – overall change requires something far greater - which only God himself can bring about.

Brother, your idea is not strange at all. How do you “know” that they are on fire for God? Is it what takes place on Sunday mornings / evenings in the sanctuary? The only reason that I ask is that I visited a church one Sunday evening about 15 years ago and the whole congregation was involved with the service praising, amening, dancing in the spirit, the music was wonderful and then I went back the next Sunday evening and while standing there watching all this unfold AGAIN the exact same way the previous Sunday, I asked the Lord was going on and two words came immediately into my mind, “Pavlov’s dogs.” But since reading your post, I can see an ‘angel of light’ spirit too.

I don’t believe one or twenty verses will change anyone’s opinion of it all... it will take an act of (a face-to-face encounter with) the Holy Spirit to show the pastor what is going on in the "spiritual realm" of his church and that will take much prayer and fasting (possibly on your part). And the Lord might be showing you what needs to be done to break the religious ties that bind.

This is all just my opinion based on my experience, it may not be anything like your church at all; please forgive me if I’ve not helped.

Thanks for the replies! I put some of this advise into practice immediately, as I had already sent some verses, oops! I sent a follow up email of apology and just me needing to better handle my zeal!

It's been of real help. They are on fire enough I guess I should say, half the church is made of missionaries, they are always witnessing and going to India, Cambodia, Africa, etc. I'll just say the church is alive :)

I hope that my thoughts weren't coming across as having attitude, as I certainty have love and humility on my mind as I approach this.
