do you ever feel that your falling away from god sometimes when your stressed or some type of mood you always get in? Meagan,I heard a Minister some years ago say "God hates moods." I have never forgot that, although I have tried to supress it, especially in the middle of a "mood".But even in the midst of the darkest hour, which was some two and one half years in length I truly was confident "of this one thing, that He which hath began a good work in me would perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." Philp 1:6And so, He remains faithful. In Christtony
Hi Meagan,I agree with Tony. You can't go by feelings and I know God doesn't either. Now if you're committing some habitual sin that you know that you should not be, then I might say yes, you may feel like you're away from God for a reason.Commit all your ways to Him and He will direct your path. :-)
Hmmm... I think we've all felt separated from God or far away from Him some time in our relationship with Him.We all definitely have a choice to let things into our life daily that either draw us closer to God, or make us feel far away. I can't say what those things are, but I think deep down inside we all just know. Like I've listened to secular music before thinking it was fine... but... it definitely can get empty and then you go back to worship or listening to other things that you just know brings you closer to God. So... my advice would be to let go of things that don't bring you closer to God and replace them with things that make you think about God and see what happens. Then keep spending your time on things that keep you close to God.It is true that we can't depend on our feelings to tell us the facts on our relationship with God. At the same time, I don't think God gets mad when we express our feelings to Him, even if they're negative like doubtful or bitter. The Psalms are full of David expressing his feelings to God. Read Job and see what feelings he expressed. God corrected Job's thinking a bit, but He wasn't mad and He didn't leave Job.One thing I feel strongly about is that God never leaves us! We're the ones that leave God. He is unconditional - humans are very conditional. So we can't view God through human conditions. We need to ask God to help us see things through His loving, unconditional, merciful and gracious eyes.
Hi Sisdo you ever feel that your falling away from god sometimes when your stressed or some type of mood you always get in? Where is your thought life? What consumes your day? Does the substance of what you dwell consist of the things of this world or of God?In ChristJeff
Where is your thought life? What consumes your day? Does the substance of what you dwell consist of the things of this world or of God?Jeff,How vitally important this is, in the life of every follower of Christ.Philippians 4:8 reads: "Finally, brethren, whtsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."For me, I need everything I view to line up with this passage, everything I listen to must line up with this passage, everything I read must line up with this passage. All my actions, all my thoughts must needs line up with this. And just because it's true, does not mean also it is pure and lovely. I have had to wean myself off too much World and local news for example. So much of what I was feeding my mind was sure enough true, but so much of it was in no wise of a "good" report and virtuous.Well, just some additional thoughts.Blessings to you, tony
There are certain things we must not pray about—moods, for instance. Moods never go by praying, moods go by kicking. A mood nearly always has its seat in the physical condition, not in the moral. It is a continual effort not to listen to the moods which arise from a physical condition; never submit to them for a second. We have to take ourselves by the scruff of the neck and shake ourselves, and we will find that we can do what we said we could not. The curse with most of us is that we won’t. The Christian life is one of incarnate spiritual pluck.Chambers, Oswald, My Utmost for His Highest, (May 20th) c1927.
Brought to mind..."Part of my Christian growth is grabbing my thoughts by the scruffs of their necks and jerking them in line." ~ Joni Erickson TadaDug out from an older thread that I noticed had been visted recently with some related thoughts that apply here,Night and day on my knees
Moods never go by praying, moods go by kicking.I have always loved this by Chambers. I bet the J.E.Tada quote probably comes from reading him too :-)I am always having to pick my self up by the scruff of the neck and shake myself up a bit. :-) Sad, isn't it?In His love, chanin
