Prophets Are Needed In This Late Hour by Greg Gordon

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign LORD, “when I will send a famine through the land— not famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. Men will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the LORD, but they will not find it." - Amos 8:11-12

In the days of Amos the prophet there was a weariness in the people of God. The prophetic preaching that the people used to hear stopped. Where was the mouthpiece for God? In the Old Covenant there was a reliance on the man who was in touch with God. Such a person was the communication between God and men. Moses was a great model of this where the people were frightened to seek God themselves so they forced Moses to be their representative. Even God said to moses that he will make him "like God to the people" so they will hear his words as of the words of God Himself. Such was the atmosphere of a constant longing for those that would bring the word of the Lord to the people of Israel. When trouble occurred or major problems the first thing in people's hearts was: what is God saying? Where is God's prophet of the hour?

Though in the New Covenant there are not only prophets that lead the people of God but also pastors, teachers, evangelists and apostles (Ephesians 4:11). Yet the role of the prophet is still important and vital for the church. Sadly few in our day esteem or desire this calling to be one who is 100% uncompromising to the truths of Gods word. There are self-proclaimed prophets who are seeking the honour of men, such have never been called of God and are warped and self-decieved. Yet there are those few who have been in the school of God for many years, unknown, hidden, and at God's will they come forth to speak for God boldly without the fear of man. Such true prophets are sorely needed in our day to share the heart of God with us. The gift of teaching is very important for the daily and monthly health of a body yet the role of prophet will fulfill and help in ways teachers would never be able to.

When apostasy and false teaching is abounding, then the prophets are needed to stand against the tide of falsehood with the piercing truth of God. Any saint of God can be called for this role, yet God is very selective in His raising of them. God will bring you to the place of nothing before He raises you up to use you. Though God has used bible colleges and seminaries to raise up godly leaders, yet those who are called to this prophetic role will usually not be birthed from these institutions. When God needed an Apostle without compromise he had to take him to the the desert of Arabia for 14 years to train him in the ways of God. Such a message did not come from men or traditions but God Himself revealed it to Paul by revelation (Galatians 1:12). You could imagine the discussion between people in that day stating which Apostle mentored them or what bible school they went to and then ask paul and his reply is simple "oh yes, well Jesus Himself came and revealed the Gospel to me." There would have been no higher boast then this or credentials if one needed them. Though there is much to learn from God, prophets are God trained by His Spirit, so their reliance is on God not men.

Today, there is a famine of hearing the true words of the Lord. But there is not a famine in hearing of many false teachers who are coming in the name of God but misleading people. So many are teaching false doctrines for the sake of financial prosperity. Sadly many are believing these false teachers and allowing themselves to be deceived by these charlatans. The Apostle Peter writes of these men 2000 years ago: "In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping." (2 Peter 2:3). The love of money and greediness it the chief characteristic of a false teacher. So when you hear these men on TV going on and on about money you can bet they could fall into this category. Sadly the discernment in the body of Christ is very low in our day and many are not reading their bibles diligently. If we studied our bibles daily with great diligence we would know the truth and not be deceived. We agree with the statement that Zac Poonen has said many times: "If you do not study your bible carefully you deserve to be deceived." Our Lord Jesus said it so clearly: "If you know the truth the truth shall set you free." And it firstly sets you free from being deceived by false teachers and prophets in these last days.

God has always been faithful to have a voice in every generation. Surely we find ourselves in a time as the Psalmist lamented: “We are given no miraculous signs; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be..” (Psalm 74:9) Yet they will come! The prophets will come with messages that will sear our consciences, Oh how we need a modern day prophets. We can be assured that God will never leave a generation without a witness of His working. Especially in the last days God will revive His Church and build a Name for Himself in the earth, to send out an end times final witness of the Gospel. Just like Jeremiah who was a prophet that heard from God and he prophesied: “Therefore this is what the LORD God Almighty says: 'Because the people have spoken these words, I will make my words in your mouth a fire and these people the wood it consumes..” These new breed of preachers will be men that are shut-in with God and hear from him and their words will be as “fire” and the people “wood.” We must pray in these last days that God will send and raise up these men to help correct and protect the body of Christ from coming deceptions that will come in the last days. And maybe God is even calling you to be His man for this generation, spend much time in His presence and fear only God and not men. May the Lord do this all for His glorious bride today. Let it be so!

They were here and GOD has taken and is taking them Home.
[That they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.] They warned us of what is coming and told us to seek Him and His Word with all of our hearts, strength and time. They pointed us to John 16:13, 14 and not to themselves and told us to be wise as serpents but harmless as doves in the last days, as deception and persecution rises and to follow His Two Commandments. To be seperate from this world and the things of this world. To by holy as He is holy and to love not our lives, even to the death.
Those that listened to them are doing so without any big announcements that they are, but the majority hadn't or just don't want to - so now we're in the apostasy because of all of this and the next prophets that will come will be the two prophets.
All the rest that claim a prophetic mantle now, are merely prophet-want-to-bes or professional massage therapists, giving the people their much desired weekly back rubs and what's left of the true are on their way Home too.

Just my sorrowful or pitiful opinion on this topic.
They were here and their words can still be found written or recorded. The words that the majority of 'the church' passed over for decades and for spiritually useless topics or interests.

Im sorta confused did Paul really go to the desert to train for 14 years? From what I understand if Paul did go to train in the desert it would of been at most for three years

Galatians 2:1: "Fourteen years later I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also."

here is a website talking about this issue, I am not dogmatic on it but it seems Paul had much time with the Lord to learn of Him and do His work not being directly under the prior Apostles influence.

If Paul's conversion was in the year 32, he worked "a long time" in Damascus, then he went off for a short visit to Jerusalem, he was "three years in Arabia" and in Syria and Cilicia so long that only "fourteen years later" did he visit Jerusalem again. Evidently these fourteen years must be counted from Paul's conversion experience. Thus 32 + 14 plus the "long time" in Damascus, that is, perhaps almost a whole year would point to the year 47 A.D., when his first missionary journey is often placed. These approximate estimates make one ask where Paul had worked in those "intermediate years". And what universal and human conclusions can be drawn from this long delay?

Brother Jimmy, more than ever, I'm coming to the opinion that I posted on page one, in reply to this article. How on earth can anyone contend against the false teachers or false prophets if they're constantly shut up and told they're not being loving. That is why I posted what I did. I see it every day in this last 10 yrs or so. Where are the Elijah's of 1Kings 18, or the Peters or Pauls of the NT? How did they deal with heresies and the false prophets?
That's why I feel stronger than ever that we need the two witnesses. True Prophets of GOD!

I forgot to add: these true prophets & apostles, from the OT, to the NT accounts in the book of Acts and right up to the last days two prophets are known as true by "demonstrations of power", as Paul said, or signs following. Those were and will be what's needed and is coming with those Two and Oh LORD, how we need the true.

Are dreams ever significant in this day, I had a dream that was very simple, and has stuck with me. I was in a darkened room, near the left of the foot of a bed, and there was a very sick dying women in the bed. To the right of the foot of the bed there was a light, like a door was open. Jesus was standing there with His back to me. He reached over to help her out of bed. I kept saying "Jesus, please turn around and look at me, Want to see you". I knew he heard me but He would not turn. He walked her out quietly through the door that was not there. So ends the dream. Funny thing, I did not recognized the room until we moved into this apartment.
