'The Voice': New Bible translation focuses on dialogue

The name Jesus Christ doesn't appear in The Voice, a new translation of the Bible.

Nor do words such as angel or apostle. Instead, angel is rendered as messenger and apostle as emissary. Jesus Christ is Jesus the Anointed One or the liberating king.

That's a more accurate translation for modern American readers, says David Capes, lead scholar for The Voice, a complete edition released this month by publishing company Thomas Nelson. Capes says that many people, even those who've gone to church for years, don't realize that the word "Christ" is a title.
"They think that Jesus is his first name and Christ is his last name," says Capes, who teaches the New Testament at Houston Baptist University in Texas. ...

Sad to see that in the last days people would corrupt the revealed word.

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts they shall heap to themselves teachers having itching years."

"and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book."

Oh my. Another relevant Bible translation. As if we don't have enough of them. We don't read the ones we have now.

What a joke!

If the English speaking world would just obey the Bibles we have now we would turn the world upside down…

Why do we need a new version every year? Each one is more watered down then the last…

There should NOT be another English Bible produced until every people group on the planet has a translation of the Bible in their own native language!

Instead of buying a new version send your support to Bible translators in need.

I didn't read the article any farther than posted on this site, but for some to say that translations such as these are "taking away from the Word of God" because they translate Christ as "Anointed One" and angel as "messenger" (both of which are the literal and accurate translations of the words from their original languages) is a bit of a stretch.

I don't know how well The Voice itself has been translated as a whole (and I'm in agreement that it's not like English speakers are in need of another new one), and if it's anything like The Message or whatever it's a waste of paper....

But to villainize a group for using the most literal translation of some of the names..........

Come on now......
