Beloved saints in Christ,
Greetings of love in Jesus name! I have felt drawn out by God to address the subject of the giant that was slain in the solemn assembly last Sunday morning. I feel God directing my heart to share with you from the perspective of a battle -seasoned warrior. When a leader slays a giant in battle, it’s very significant. My mind was carried to the example of David, who was also a battle-seasoned warrior. My mind was carried to that scene when David stepped out onto the battlefield and heard those God-defying words coming out of the mouth of that giant/champion. I could see that warrior’s heart as he stood and listened to the words of Goliath and saw how the people of God fled in terror before his words. I know what happened in that warrior’s heart that day. He had come from the sheepfold, worshipping Jehovah – the Eternal Self-Existent God; and his heart rose up within him – this MUST be stopped. We know from the scriptures what that warrior did with the giant that day. Without any fear, he ran towards the face of that giant, knocked him down with a stone, jumped up on his dead body, and cut his head off! I want to carry your minds to the after-battle scene when David cut Goliath’s head off. When a warrior slays a giant/champion, it’s very significant. When you think of the giant and all he said – how he defiled the pure and holy name of the Eternal, Self-Existent God – it’s very significant. When a giant/champion acts like that – to put him to death is not good enough.
I want you to ponder the process of humiliation when a giant/champion who has boasted like that is killed. This is what is done after the battle. His carcass is dragged off the scene of the battlefield and left to lie there – no more to puff and blow up his big chest with words that strike fear in the people of God. When a seasoned warrior has slain a champion like that, it’s very significant. He leaves that dead carcass to lay over there in the hot sun, and allows the soldiers to move around the scene - gathering some of the spoils of the battle. That dead carcass, lying there in the hot sun, represents many things to the people of God. Every warrior knows - that dead carcass represents the freedom of my family, my children, and the future of my generations. And there lays that carcass in the hot sun, beginning to swell. I know these may be gruesome scenes, but I feel urged by God that we ponder them for a moment. Again I say - this is a process of humiliation that must be done over the carcass of a slain champion because of all that he represented before. This process may take the whole day, but while that carcass lies in the hot sun and begins to swell – there sits that battle-seasoned warrior on a rock, glancing at that swelling body. Picture the scene with me. Remember what David said to Goliath – ‘I will give your carcass to the birds.’ So picture that body laying there, swelling in the sun, and the vultures start coming to continue the process of humiliation on this proud, God-defying champion.
On Sunday morning, in the solemn assembly, that champion was slain. He gained his foothold through pride in our own lives. I think it’s very good for us to ponder this after battle scene as we also realize that our own lives and the future of our families, our children and our grandchildren have been freed from this proud giant’s influence through the slaying of that giant. It’s very important for each of you, beloved in Christ to allow your own hearts and minds to ponder this after battle scene. You need to grasp the deep significance of what is going to happen in the future because this champion has been slain. My mind goes to the soldiers and the warrior in that battle scene as it dawns on him – the enemy has been slain, my family has been preserved and I will dwell with God with my family around me in the days ahead. These realities are very good to ponder as we look at the battle scene and realize what really happened there.
Dear beloved in Christ, we all know how human we can be and it’s easy for us to just strike off a victory and go our way rejoicing about the good things that happened. In reality, the fact of the matter is that Jehovah, the Self-Existent God stepped in on the scene to deliver our wives, our families and our children, because we were willing to face our own pride and humble ourselves. A thought about the solemn assembly – I don’t understand all the things that can happen in a solemn assembly when the people of God humble themselves and begin to face their own failures in repentance. But I know it is significant. I already hear the rumblings and the effects that are beginning to spread among the people of God. I know that it’s right to do right, and right was done on Sunday morning in the solemn assembly. Because of that, I believe it’s very important that we stay low to the ground as we ponder the things that happened on a battlefield and the results that need to come because a giant/champion was slain.
Saints in Christ, please receive from my heart some of these guiding words. It’s very important that we stay low before God in these days. I hope I’m making sense with these words. They have been upon my heart for days – I cannot shake them. I write them to you even while weeping. I hasten to say – I do not want to sound at all presumptuous to assume that some great mighty battle has been won. God forbid! This giant was not slain by a man – it was slain by God. But I feel so jealous over the glory of God in this. I feel very sensitive to the fact that we humans could so easily undue the deep work that God is trying to do. We don’t want to miss this or mess it up with our own human workings. I only want to share with you – I know I’ve been silent for many days. I felt I needed to come forward a bit and share and try to guide your thought, so that we can remain in humility and sobriety before God as we ponder our lives, our wives, our children and our future generations.
