Spending time with the Lord

What does it mean to "spend time with the Lord"?

Adam and Eve with God in the "cool of garden", but now because of sin that is damaged.

I feel like my time with the Lord when I talk to Him it's very one sided and selfish crying out to God for just my issues.

I know this might seem like a weird question, but I'm looking for how to be intimate with the Lord and what that time spend with Him is supposed to look like.

Thanks, dkr777

Brother,

I suffered from this same condemnation for awhile, just today I got a revelation on it. I would pray and then my worries (burdens) about work, stress, business etc. would flood my mind and rather than feel good about my time with God I would get condemned over my thoughts and it became a burden.

Today I was praying and this same thing happened and I got a revelation on it. The Lord asked me if I would listen to the things that were on my youngest sons heart (things that were bothering him) and of course I would if I knew that it was troubling him, without a doubt!

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! ~MT 7:11

If it is troubling us, it is troubling our heavenly Father. We all know the words to this song:

If the world from you withholds all it's silver and it's gold,
And you have to get along with meager fare,
Just remember, in His Word, how He feeds the little bird;
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

Leave it there, leave it there,
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out.
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

All of these thoughts were going through my head so I just took that burden to the Lord and as soon as I did I felt peace to pray on! The key to the truth in the song is LEAVE IT THERE, don't take it with you.

The devil will do everything in his power to shut you up from prayer, know this! He will fire darts "you're only concerned about yourself" "that was a lame prayer, all you do is complain to the Father", I've heard them all, multiple times. Press on, break through, praise His name!

If what you are doing was ineffective you would not hear any flak from the devil, he is, by definition a liar and there is NO (not a grain of) truth in him. Basically you can take what he says, and praise the Lord because the exact opposite is true!

If the Lord hears and we are judged by every 'idle' word, how much more does He hear the cry of His children offered up from a broken and loving heart? I'm telling you it blesses His heart to hear from His children!

DON'T STOP BROTHER!!

Hope this helps you out :-)

Much love!

I was in a bad situation I could not get out and the people around me were very maligning etc. And I cried and cried out to the Lord and then one day I picked up a little Bible study book and it talked about alone time with Him and doing this little Bible study. So at that moment I kind of checked out of my circumstances and went off by myself to do this little Bible study and it all came alive to me. My time with Him became so exciting I went to bed excited to wake and have that alone time with Him.

I guess God uses any thing to draw us to Himself. That was several years ago and things have tried to come in the way but still today it is my most favorite time, to be alone with Him.

Sometimes there would be so much going on in my life I could hardly get my mind on what I was reading. But I kept reading asking the Holy Spirit to speak. And sometimes it took 3 chapters then all of a sudden all my thoughts were into what I was reading and continued on being fed.

Ask the Lord to give you a time, my favorite is outside in the mornings before it gets hot that is. And sometimes just sitting in His Presence, not speaking or reading, just basking and thinking of His goodness.

It will become an addiction. Sometimes I just read the Psalms and then sit and meditate, sometimes I use them as prayers for myself or others, sometimes I see what the Lord has promised me in the red letters and who He is. When I know more and more who He is I can pray with more faith and thankfulness.

I can only give my testimony and pray the Holy spirit will use a tad of it to encourage you as others will too. He is drawing you to Himself it seems, as He is all of us, for that intimacy that will grow and grow as we give it the time.

God continue to bless and reveal Himself to you and to all of us.

He is the Vine we are the branches.
