How I Overcame PORN & LUST & How YOU Can Also

This is a chapter from a book I wrote entitled "Understanding Mortification" which deals largely with combating the power of lust and other temptations of the flesh:

The unrenewed mind can be likened as unto a landing strip for the cargo of Satan. Once the cargo is embraced, the mind will begin to use it to generate fleshly rebellion in defiance to God’s law. The powers of darkness wage careful attacks with the goal to infiltrate our thoughts and steer our meditations from the loftiness of God to the baseness of our carnality. Popular preachers are often used as tools in the hands of Satan to effectuate this. When a minister speaks of physical obtainments such as monetary blessings, houses, automobiles, personal ambition, outward beauty, or carnal obtainments in any measure as a focus for prayer or as a result of godliness, the minister in question is unknowingly being used by Satan to stir the flesh against the spirit through heresy (Romans 16:10; I Timothy 6:5, 9-10; Titus 1:11; 3:10; II Peter 2:3).

God has given discernment to His children for the purpose of knowing what they are to mortify and what they are to embrace. If an impulse surfaces in your mind which causes you to fixate upon some personal gain to selfishly improve or facilitate your sojourning upon this cursed earth, such an impulse ought to be identified as injurious to the spirit and instantly mortified. I say instant mortification, because if you allow for a reprieve, your flesh nature will arise and persuasively advocate the impulse’s cause. This appeal is the beginning stage of a stronghold.

Bring this principle now to the sleek tarmac of the eye. Many men fight a war with the temptation to lust with their eyes. If the mind has not been renewed, the lustful image can be unloaded from the eyeport and brought into the mind for unprotected processing. Once in the mind, the image will summon the flesh for advocacy. A war then ensues, with the new man struggling to keep the heart closed off to the impending sabotage (Galatians 5:17).

If the spirit of the mind has not been renewed (Romans 12:2), and the inner man not strengthened with might by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 3:16), a stronghold can develop in the heart. A stronghold is an invisible fortress buttressed by unmortified flesh to repress the inner man. The purpose of God’s armor as mentioned in Ephesians chapter 6 is to prevent these strongholds from developing. A revelatory understanding of satanic warfare and how the rulers of darkness seek to infiltrate our vessels via the mind will shed tremendous light on the putting on of this divine armor. God’s armor is given for mortification; it is divinely designed for preventing spirits of wickedness from invading the tarmac of our senses and giving rise to the flesh by perverting our thought-patterns. The Sword of the Spirit likewise is for aggressively countering each fiery dart of satanic suggestion with the fatal thrust of “It is written” as it brings the impulse down into captivity (Luke 4: 4, 8, 10; II Corinthians 10:3-5).

God protects our hearts and minds with grace and peace when our affections are set on Christ seated above (Philippians 4:6; Colossians 3:1-3). If we are careful to be renewed in the spirit of our minds and seek grace to overcome each assault, we can win a steady victory daily. Although the joy of walking before God with a clean conscience and a pure heart is an asset without price, it is one we all can partake of without exception if certain precautions are made.

For our God is no respecter of persons.

"I spent a lot of years waiting for God to meet me in my pit, take me out of my pit, remove my pit. He did none of those things. Instead, He patiently waited on me to step into the Light.
I would meditate on the word that says that he provides for us a way of escape from temptation and wonder why I couldn't escape my passions. Where was my "out?"
It wasn't till I began to *see* that my way of escape was not the escape that I wanted or imagined, but it was literally to remove all focus from myself and my temptation and set my focus onto Jesus.
I will use an issue with anger that I dealt with as an example: I would ask the Lord to remove my anger but then when I found myself angry, I would resist a little, and then go with it because I thought to deny it would be to lie to myself. I mean, if God had delivered me from anger then why was I feeling angry? So I believed I was not delivered, and I would go with the flow of feeling angry. You see, even though I was thinking about God I was still focused on my want- to feel angry and act on it. As a result, I remained in bondage.
Eventually, I began to ask God to deliver me from anger, and when I would be tempted to act on it I would fall on my knees and tell God about all the scriptures I had read that convicted my heart that it was sin for me, asking deliverance from this thing in my heart that displeases Him and I would recount His goodness and character. Through persevering in this way, I began to notice that the episodes became less frequent and less severe. This was the way of escape He had given me.
If the Holy Spirit is convicting you of gluttony, then He is also wanting to free you from it. It is natural to wish the temptation would just be gone, but even Jesus "learned obedience by the things he suffered." God wants us to learn to be dependent on Him. Ask Him to teach you how He is your way of escape. This is the Fathers will for us. May God bring this to life for you.
Jesus was tempted just like we are, but yet he never gave into a temptation. How did he do it? The very same way- He wanted only to do the Fathers will, and He sought to please Him in all things. He spent all his life humbling himself before Him , that's what Jesus came to show us. That's the WAY. The Way to life.
