Recently, I have become more painfully aware of the pervasiveness of lying.

Most people when confronted with the facts will say, "Oh, I am sorry, reckon I was wrong - thanks for correcting me!" But no, there is a strong resistance to the truth, even when there are witnesses to prove the report wrong.

I am seeing this everywhere...everywhere. It is not just in politics, it is in families, the church... If you work to find out the facts, then you are suspect. You are not trusted, you are disbelieved.

It seems as though little white lies have evolved into a lifestyle that harbors ill-will, it supports ill-will, fuels bitterness, anger.

Once again I am seeing the practical out-workings of James 2:10: For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point is guilty of all." This verse implies a person may only commit one sin but be righteous otherwise. I have seen where it appears a body is righteous and is only guilty of only one sin but before too long other sins become more evident - they were just well hidden.

I am appalled with how people LOVE to believe a lie. You expect it from non-believers but not from Christians. I guess this just goes to prove that not all Christians are Believers. And that we are indeed living in the last days when truth shall be evil spoken of.

Read this scripture this morning.

Isaiah 59:15, "So truth fails, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey".

I know it is not exactly what you are talking about, but an aversion to truth is quite apparent nowadays.

Me too. . . and emphasis being on 'painfully.' It hurts a lot. I can't recall where the scripture is but it reminds me of when Jesus said 'why do you call me good?' Jesus knew what was in man and didn't entrust Himself to it. We need to do the same; know what is in man and not entrust ourselves to it. . .if we don't, we're destined for painful awakenings at one time or another.

Ginny,

I couldn’t agree with you more. I see it more and more that the line is being drawn between those who love to RECIEVE the love of the truth and those who don’t (2 Thess 2.10).

And another point about this topic, I was listening to a sermon by Zac Poonen and he was explaining Rev 21.8 and said that as a society we (Christians) have made a distinction between white/good lies and black/bad lies and God in His infinite wisdom proclaimed “ALL LIARS” shall have their part in the lake of fire.

Welllll.....so I am not the only one who is witnessing this evil? On one hand it is comforting but on the other hand it just demonstrates its pervasiveness and THAT is tragic.

Appreciate the truth spoken about white lies: "ALL liars shall have their part in the lake of fire..." Now this is serious.

With lies flying fast and thick it becomes a challenge to discern what is truth and what is a lie.

We need to feel the presence of God so much more as these days are getting more wicked...

Richard Wurmbrand talked about how brothers betrayed each other during the communist persecution - catch that "Brothers" - people you would have trusted. Jesus also says the same thing will happen in the end times.

Perhaps these experiences are preparing us for the time when it will really get bad?

In the last ten yrs, I've seen a very scarey trend of the drastic increase in actual sociopaths, not only in the world but in the church. The 'look out for number one' folks, that see people as something to gain-say over through any means necessary - especially through untruthfulness - if it'll serve themselves.
They 'use' people to get whatever it is that they want for themselves, with no conscience over what they're doing at all. Sociopaths are pathological liars - though that's a secular way of putting it - they get to the point that they believe their own lies.

Isn't that what 2 Timothy 3 is saying.

Not only that they want to believe lies. Now this is taking it to a new level, IMHO. It is so frustrating.

Reckon believing the truth will force them to face something in their own heart that they would rather not?

I know when a person has a 'positive thinking' mindset, he/she will tune out anything negative. This will then open themselves to lies because it feels better. Somehow there is a balance of truth that must be pursued with kindness ruling one's heart.

It sounds as though it was written just recently, does it not?

One more thought.

Believers are engaged in crusades fighting this vice and that - in particular homosexuality, abortion; promoting stable marriages - you name it. There are vices, make no mistake. But what about lying? OOOooohhh...can you imagine a crusade launched by some organization like American Family Association? And how difficult it will be to do so? And yet it is just as destructive as any vice you can name.

This is a tremendously important topic that you've brought out, ginnyrose and all the more as time moves on in these last days - as GOD's Hand of protection will be needed all the more in the days ahead and the need to be "deception proofed" ourselves, as deception will come in a way that's never been seen on this earth as well as "flatteries" from the spirit of antiChrist.

If we give into "little white lies" - though I don't see demons behind every door-knob - I know that it can open one up to a deceitfulness that blinds the person to 'lies' and a spirit of lying takes over to the point that the person does begin to believe their own lies.
This is severely dangerous and an important topic - now more than ever before in history - as the evil that's here and coming will require pure hearts from deception of Any type.

2Tim 3:13 says, "deceiving and be-ing deceived". A lie is a deception and opens the person to be-ing deceived because GOD 'is' Truth and the purpose Jesus came was to testify to Truth and if a person claims to be indwelt by His Spirit of Truth, they are all the more under obligation to walk in That Spirit and not the spirit of the father of lies - that antiChrist spirit of Satan.

GOD loves real people. He wants "Truth in the inward parts", as David wrote and T.A. Sparks did a fine artice by that title.
We know that David wasn't perfect - but he was honest - which is that quality of being "a man after GOD's Own heart".

The number one requirement of our Holy GOD is truth.
He can work with a truthful heart and we can commune with those with a truthful heart - as we're touching GOD's Heart together. But He leaves no room for a deceitful heart.
We seldom see perfection - as in, someone that is fully conformed to The Image of Christ - but there is something refreshing to be with a person who's heart is without that self-seekingness that causes what He called 'guile' and the deceitful heart.

Lies are not necessary for the non-self-seeking, nor the non-deceptive or non-deceived.

Solution:

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Good prayer: Psalm 51

We need to be real and this is how - through this very issue you've brought out.
We need to say what we mean and mean what we say and make sure that it's the truth, before HIM.

We need to fear deception of any sort and pray against it - even with fasting - in view of what's coming, as well.

I know we say that the elect won't be deceived but we need to take another look at what Daniel spoke of this same time period that Paul was referring to - Dan 11:35 "And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end ...."

Our prayer should be that GOD would purge us now and purge our thought life, where lies are first conceived - and through careful devotion to Him, take every thought captive, rather than have to 'fall' during those days - Amen!

Pray one for another - as it's been said - that the one that feels that they're above deception is already deceived.

we need to fear the decpetion of an imature christan life ,in many cases ,, the deseption of a soulish perception ,,and put off childish things ,for the child

put off teenage things ,for the teenager in christ

put of midel age things , concering the midel age christian

and put of the pride that may set in ,with the fathers and mothers ,,

and seek to grow ,till we are glorafied

i think there are many obvious deceptions ,and demomnic ,pits,,,that most of us all know of

but the hiden lukwarmness with in our soul ,can stagnate and hinder revivle ,and led to all types of decption and sin

Are there not circumstances when lying is the right thing to do?

Edit: I'm not trying to be contrary, but there are real legit times when lying is neccessary.

I do understand that it is wrong when lies cause suffering and pain, but speaking the truth can also cause needless pain and suffering. The Jewish Midrash addresses when it is right to tell a lie.

Truth, like lying, can be merciless and destructive.

His Sheep Know His Voice and won't follow another.

We need to Know His Voice Now.

Then: Mar 13:11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

I don't believe He needs our brain to figure things out.

Truth when given without love is merciless and destructive. It's like the "letter kills but the Spirit gives life" scripture; depends on who is wielding the sword.

Art, there was only your first sentence there when I replied and maybe you've misunderstood my reply.

Midrash is not The Word. It's the writings of men.

But the good news - what I tried to convey in my reply, was that The LORD will fill our mouths when that time comes & whenever we wait on Him.

Also, for those that feel that they have any type of brain damage - they are in better shape to depend on His Voice than those that use their own understanding - and it can be Him giving that person the words and learning complete dependence on His thoughts/answers by that way of life.

Depending on the Holy Spirit - when one feels they can't tell the truth because it will hurt or endanger someone is the absolute safest and most Biblical way to go - because only He is omniscient and not our own understanding/minds.

The Word doesn't address "when it is right to tell a lie" - but He does promise to "fill our mouths".

Most of us humans don't learn to trust in The LORD with all of our heart and lean not on our own understanding and in All our ways acknowledge Him so that He will direct our paths - or words, until something pushes us against a wall - as what Jesus meant in the verse I referred to. But it would also be better to know His Voice now, as John 10 states than to wait until it may be a matter of life or death of someone else.

We wait on Him because we can fully trust Him and not our own ingenuity or ideas.

Going beyond what is written [a book outside of His Word] is just as dangerous as speaking from our own self-confident minds and think that we'll always come up with the best 'lie' or judgment of a person or situation with a full-proof and safe answer without complete dependence on Him alone to fill our mouths.

Luk 12:11,12 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: for the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour [instant] what ye ought to say.

Luk 21:14,15 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

... which may very well protect others as well as be a witness from Him because He loves all those He brings into our lives. Even those that hate us.
