False Comfort

How easy it is to tell someone exactly what they want to hear and call that love...I have thought about this quote and the ramifications of these words in the lives of those around me. Far to often I have rushed in with words of comfort thinking I was loving the person when in fact I was interfering with the work of the HOLY SPIRIT in their life. Another example for me at least why I need to guard my tongue, to be of few words, and to speak only as the LORD gives me leading too.

This is a common theme in Oswald Chambers' writings: rushing into to comfort or aid a person and thereby sabotage what the Spirit is doing in that person's life.

This is an extremely tricky area that requires a lot of discernment. Obviously loving a person does not always mean "helping." It might mean keeping our mouths shut.

So true, oh! so true.

I also suspect this is what starts a person on the downward path to apostasy.

One will unwittingly give approval to something the LORD does not want which in turn will make us vulnerable to deception.

This very issue is fraught with profound implications.

TMK is right when she says that sometimes the best thing one can do is keeping our mouth shut. The reason this is so hard is that we do not like to see someone is distress and will work to alleviate it. What we may not know is that this stress is caused by conflicts in the soul caused by a refusal to obey the voice of the Spirit.
