has anyone become born again while part of a liberal church?

This is similar to my experience about 5 years ago. I was 16 years old. I was most familiar with liberal churches growing up (even though I didn't necessarily know they were liberal). Then, one day my mother took me to a different sort of church, and what I've said is my conversion happened shortly after. However, I didn't understand that fully at the time, and for about the first year and a few months afterward I went both to that church and the liberal church (but mainly the liberal church). It is perhaps part of the reason why I struggle with assurance much today.

Has this happened to any of you? I'd appreciate getting to talk with someone who is familiar with this experience.

I do not believe there is any liberal and conservative churches. There is Church of Christ and then there are rest of other clubs. I came to know about Jesus in a mega church that was not Christ centered. But after accepting Jesus as my savior, I did not find any greater change in my attitude towards Sin (which is being born again) until I moved to a Christ Centered Home Fellowship.

My point is a true bride of Christ will be in a place where his Groom Jesus is present.

That is quite a statement. You are saying that the Holy Spirit did not lead you to put to death the deeds of the flesh or walk in holiness? That you needed to be in a Fellowship for this to happen? Is that what you meant?

If one is quickened or Born Again it can happen anywhere and in just about any circumstance we could imagine. The divine intervention that changes man and places within him the Holy Spirit of Christ. It happens to men anywhere at anytime. I was in church for 30 years (an very active in religion) before God revealed Himself to me and would forever change my life because of it. Not even looking for God or knowing I was lost God gracefully exposed Himself as only He can.

I was talking to another man I just met a couple of days ago that was checking out of this world and cried out for God to prove Himself. God did, and that man will never be the same. Did he put God to the test. Yes, but obviously in a way acceptable to the Lord, not from pride but from weakness and desperation so that there was but one avenue left. Maybe not an avenue, more like a narrow path.

I would also question the different ion between churches that you site. Does it matter the stand of a church when God saves a man except that that man will pursue the truth at all cost once he is saved. He will not abide with that that grieves God, liberal or conservative.

So true. In fact, today I met a dear Christian who over lunch shared with me how she heard the gospel through her sister - and was saved as a result. The sister in this French Catholic family was hearing the gospel message day after day through Christian renters in her family home. Then she would repeat the message afterwards to her family - only with mockery and ridicule. Didn't matter! Her sister, the one speaking to me was not deterred. In spite of the mockery she accepted it because she knew it had to be true. Afterwards she was persecuted severely for her faith decision. Family, church , school - everyone mocked her. She felt very alone - but God was with her and led her eventually to Bible school.

That raises an important point: Those who find Christ in settings hostile to the gospel are usually authentic. In an evangelical church it can be easy to become "saved" - yet remain unauthentic. Sometimes God moves people into more difficult settings in order to make their faith more authentic.

Let us never limit God. Just because we never heard of a conversion in any particular branch of Christianity, doesn't mean it has never happened. None of us knows everything that goes on in the kingdom of God.

And regarding "liberal" churches, it's worth remembering that because they have a tendency to embrace a wide range of beliefs, they can also be more welcoming to gospel teachings. I know because I've seen it. And just last week I heard of a man giving his life to Christ in such a setting - through the music ministry of a Christian jazz ensemble.

Many years ago we were visiting at my SIL and their church was hosting revival meetings. After church service this evangelist visited in their home.

In the conversation he told us how he came to the LORD. It was under the preaching of a false teacher. This teacher was an alcoholic plus I do not know what else. He said he shares this info with few people because he is afraid it may offend someone. The point is the Holy Spirit was able to use what was said to minster to a needy boy. The Apostle Paul said something similar. Amazing.

There was a certain point in my life when I noticed a serious disdain for the terms "liberal" and "conservative". Its almost like we humans strive for division, for a word that we can find our identity in. Politics, church, music, occupation...ect.

In reality, the only identity in which we will find purpose is Christ. The rest is meaningless.

In terms of the question at hand, I tend to agree with Sree. I grew up in Church, but it wasn't until Christ Himself showed me His glory that my life really started to change.

That is interesting. My wife was saved at 13 years old in her Mom and Dad's liberal church when a Spirit-filled praise and worship group was invited to it.
