I belive Ccontextual reading is the right way.
Study the context and what the text is talking about/history to the text etc.

Systematic theology is good for preachers.
I have studied systematic theology and I never regret it :-)

Personally, I think the best way to study scripture is by opening with prayer every time you begin. I think it's good to study with many different resources but only if it doesn't bind you into a routine, if you know what I mean.

Admittedly, I don't know much about Systematic Theology though, so I would like to delve into it a bit.
