"Respect over Love"

I have been watching the republican national convention and i just watched New Jersey governor Chris Christie's keynote address. I don't know what to make of it but it did caught me off guard when he said that "tonight we will choose respect over love". In the bible we see love as the greatest of all attributes. What do you guys think of the governors statement putting respect above love? is this a reasonable path to take?

No. Though the fact that he was willing to make that compromise shows that he really has neither.

I agree that statement shows he has neither, it actually reminds me of the series of "I will" statements in Isaiah that lucipher made.

he was not talking about love. he was talking about being a phony to be loved by others choosing rather to tell the truth and be respected. the lead into this was that his mother told him to always tell the truth and not to shade it so others will love you.jimp

So he was saying he was choosing respect over BEING loved? (Not yelling, just lacked italics)

When I saw this title I thought you were talking about Emerson Eggerichs writings about marriage. Eggerichs informs us that in a marriage husbands want respect and wives want love. Maybe this is the concept Christie is alluding to in his speech: males need respect and females want love.

Just a thought...

elias sparked my curiosity so I found the speech on ABC online.

The deal is that earlier they had a ruckus from the Ron Paul delegates and booing the new 2016 clause.

Christie's speech was in light of the fact that most conservatives don't "like" Romney - so Christie's appealing for "respect" despite the lack of "love".

He used his own record, of how he supposedly saved New Jersey to infer that Romney will do the same for this country and him being the keynote speaker - we're supposed to believe that his record will be Romney's and we're supposed to respect him on that basis - though conservatives don't love him ['yet' - implied].

I just watched all of the videos on the weather channel about the hurricane and they've got more Mormon commercials on the videos and stationary ads on the side bar now.

Never saw the weather channel have religious commercials in all the yrs they've been around.

Just reporting.

Interesting.

Is Chris Christie the gov who is a walking advertisement for a heart attack or is that another gov I am thinking about. Whichever gov it is. That person needs to lose about 150 ponds for his own health. Ok. So this is off track. Just had to throw that in.

Mormon commercials on The Weather Channel. Suspect we will see a lit more of those on other channels.

Bearmaster.
