Prayer Request - Krispy

sermonindex Sep 11, 2012

I’m not back… but I do have a prayer request and I know I have some faithful brethren and sisters who will intercede. As most of you know my family and I have had a rough go of it over the last year and a half financially thanks to all our President has done for us. (Go ahead, ask me if I am better off than I was 4 years ago… I dare ya!)

Anyway, I have a company coming after me hard. I’ve had 3 phone interviews and I keep making it to the next stage. Problem is… the company is 5 states away. Two of our kids are almost college age. None of the kids want to move. My wife is on the fence about it, as am I. The company is waving a LOT of $$ under my nose, and they just called today and want to arrange for my wife and I to fly out there for an onsite interview. Hotel, car, etc.

The job I have right now has rotten hours, no benefits… not even a paid holiday or a vacation day. But NC is home, especially to our kids.

So I am asking you all to pray for God’s wisdom in this, and if it’s not meant to be that he would slam the door shut.

Thanx!
Krispy

Wow, Krispy...that is a hard one! I will pray for wisdom and that God will slam the door shut, but in my experience sometimes He wants me to learn to hear His voice more clearly, than just simply shutting a door for me. I'll be praying....

Also at younger ages than your children are, we moved from TX where we had a tremendous spiritual support group, back "home" to Chicago area where it is spiritually dead. I have regretted a thousand times that we did so. Your kids are at a very critical age. Of course, we weren't in a bad economy when we made our move, and you have to eat. Yes, you MUST hear from the Lord on this....

Pls let us know what He tells you....You are missed here...

I will be in prayer for you. Perhaps the move is a part of the LORDS plan for your family.
Keep your hearts and minds open to what the LORD might be doing in your life and don't be afraid of changes that might bring. I pray you will know HIS heart and plan for your family through all of this.

God bless you Krispy and your family

Wisdom and bravery to commit to the right thing. The Earth is not our home, anyway.....Your friend; Tom

Take strength and commit as you have peace...]

Hi Krispy,
I would persuade my wife and go for the interview. God often speaks or confirms through your wife. I have moved 2 times internationally through a job move that God confirmed it very clearly both times.

sermonindex Sep 11, 2012

While true, Tom, the husband is the head of the wife... when it comes to how this move will effect our kids my wife is more in tune with that than I am. I'm the type of person who views things like this as a new adventure. But my kids know where we live currently as the only home they have ever had. We are entrenched in the homeschool community, the kids have all their friends... and our church is an amazingly wonderful church.

But... I have to be able to provide for my family and it is becoming increasingly difficult to do it in this area of NC. Regardless of how the media spun NC after the DNC convention last week.

Anyway, I would be a fool not to listen to my wife as it pertains to the effect of something like this on our kids. Both emotionally and spiritually. Those are things that I'm not always in tune with because I'm a testosterone filled dude... and they are her babies.

Know what I mean?

So it's tough to know what to do.

Brother Stephen, take the trip out to the interview. It's just an onsite interview, while your planning to go and while your there "feel God out" and go from there.

I understand what you are saying here. When we moved clear across country it was such a huge change and shock to the entire family. My children only ever new our old home town, they were born there and spent there entire lives there.

As you said though you have to provide so maybe begin by asking some questions. Find out about the homeschool laws in the new state? Cost to live there? Fellowship opportunities? Find out about these things with your wife and then pray about it together. Go to the interview and pray asking GOD to reveal what HIS heart is for the family.
I know it is hard but sometimes being stretched from our comfort zones brings the greatest growth in HIM.

I will be praying for you all
God bless
mj

Edit: I just wanted to add that even though I was very unhappy about the move GOD did bring us to a place where we were one on the decision. Listen to your wife as she shares her heart and pray over those things together as well.

Getting as low to the floor as I can here Krisp, that is exactly my point. Consider the Patriarchs, and Abraham himself. It was completely illogical for him to leave Ur, and his family , and all comfort and protection to sojourn outward into a hostile world, alone, to search for another city, and possibly Sarah wasn't so thrilled about it all also; it did not matter.

I myself have made many such decisions in my marriage, and at least one or two alone, with much resistance from my family and wife, with hostility.....but I made the decision that I thought best for them, and moreover and more important, the decision that pleased God, not even myself.

In one of them, my wife told me that if I proceeded that she would leave me, and take my son with her. I was so confident that I was in the will of God, and so fearful, that I told her that I would miss her, but she would have to go, if this was her choice, but I was doing the other thing, that I knew was right.

She ended up packing up, and left. I continued in my way, and after a few days, she repented, and did return under my roof. In this, I must say, that I received a promotion from the Lord, and He displayed His pleasure toward me, and I knew He was satisfied that He might trust me to stand, even when I stood alone, to perform His will.

So, is your home and your roots and family the source of your decisions, unlike Abraham, or is it to follow the Lamb, WHEREVER He may Go?

"Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.

For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’

He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it."..and..

"“Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[ or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time;

...houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”...Jesus

This is the very core of discipleship itself; EVERYTHING is on the alter...EVERYTHING..and especially your worldly loves and possessions, your future and your supposed well being and it is at the basis of GO!...

"And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

They immediately left their nets and followed Him."
Do we act in this way? ....I hope.

Peter had a family, and fishing was his only security. Beware that you justify rebellion by exalting your own desire for comfort and peace among your family. Lay everything at His alter, holding nothing back, including the love of your children and wife. Be the Head of your Home, and the Priest of your home, and make this decision as unto the Lord, no matter the cost, and you will be blessed.

sermonindex Sep 12, 2012

This is a whole lot different than what Peter did. Peter was called into the ministry and when Jesus died he went back to work. There was nothing wrong in what Peter did. We are critical of Peters actions here. He went back to work. But once Pentecost came there was no reason to return to that work any longer, he had something else do, like feeding sheep and lambs.

Unless Krispy has been called do so some great work where he is at, then he can basically do what he needs to do to support his family. The only way he is going to know is by direct command, or by just going ahead with the offers that are being presented to him. He's been praying for a job for a long time, struggled to make ends meet and now this comes along, sounds like a Godsend. Just because it's a high paying job doesn't mean that it's of the devil. We have this stupid mindset that if it's not poor and menial then it must be of the devil.

The only issue that I see is leaving North Carolina. No one wants to uproot their family to go to another state. That means starting over, but it also means starting over with a job and the means to support your family.

This just might be the change you need. The change that takes you away from the things that are familiar to you. God has always uprooted people to show them a better place where He can show them what He plans for them. And sometimes the places that are familiar to us can be a hindrance.

A new state, a new home, new surroundings, new routes, new people, new friends, new challenges, new responsibilities, new hope, new fellowship, behold all things have become new.

Krispy,

It seems a lot of people are talking about you, but I am going to talk TO you....you are of course the head of your home, but God gave your wife as a helpmeet, and I think you are quite wise to consider what she might also hear FROM GOD on the matter. You indicated that you are both on the fence. It is no small matter to uproot your children in their teen years. Of course you must make a living for them... But as a wife who has seen the foundations destroyed for our children, I think it is equally, if not more important to consider the spiritual climate you will have in the raising of your children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Yes - God often tells us to do the unlikely, the uncomfortable, the seemingly impossible. But just make sure it is OF HIM, and not just because a company is waving $$ in front of you. If you go to where they are located, find out about the homeschooling community, and look for likeminded churches in the area before you even go. This is just my 2 cents as a wife, but I have told my husband I'd rather live in a shack than to lose my children to the world....I hope I am not coming across as telling you WHAT to do....I am only sharing from the perspective of our experience...May God give you VERY CLEAR DIRECTION...

J
Jeremy221 Sep 12, 2012

I would like to put in a few cents as someone who has both moved and been moved. As a child, I lived in several locations in the States and abroad. I didn't have any trouble with this but my brothers did. The reason they had trouble was because they had ambitions for themselves in acedemics, sports and socially. Among my siblings, we found that most of our friends were not true friends but acquaintances of mutual benefit and once we were separated our paths diverged drastically to the point that after a year's absence the mutuality was gone and the friendship was only based on memories. If your children are really born again, the Spirit can make the reality of being aliens and strangers on the Earth a physical, practical reality to them and use it as a tool to reveal just how worldly they really are. When you kids move they will desire to establish the depth of relationships they had in NC which when they find friends can help them form deeper relationships more quickly, something that can very useful if the Lord allows your kids to go to college.

I say all that only to show the other side of this choice. In your post you mention that money, benefits, paid vacation and hours were some of the most important factors, at least as far as you have shared with us. Why are you looking for work? Hasn't God been providing for you on a daily basis through this work? Aren't we commanded not to worry about what we will eat, drink or wear? How do wages, benefits, paid vacation days and working hours fit into that? Is this job search you've been on something the Lord lead you to do or has it been for the lusts of your flesh because you really aren't thankful for the good He has daily provided for His own glory.

All this has been said to say that neither option is inherently better but a call first to check your motives. If you are going into this in the wrong reason, you will regret it for years to come. Looking at what you facing, I am reminded of a portion from 'A Call to the American Church' by Boris Sorokovsky where he relates a turning point in those brethrens' escape from Communist Russia to China. As God was directing a group step-by-step across the rugged terrain in the middle of the night, He told them to get off wide easy path onto a more narrow path that took them into the brush. The leaders doubted and rationalized away the instruction they had been given and continued on the easy path. The voice of the Spirit stopped and they walked on. However, eventually they hit a swamp and those leading almost drowned in the swamp but they were saved only by the concerted effort of the others in the Grace of God. All the people cried out to God in repentance for several hours before He spoke to them again and rebuked them for their rebellion and unbelief. The Lord did lead them safely out but they were humbled. I would encourage you read and reflect on that testimony you can find here:

Steve,

I know the most recent months have been tough on you with the uncertainty of your current job. A man needs to feel that he is providing well for his family - it is his God-given job. However, this also includes the spiritual, not just the physical - you know that. No one here can tell you anything new in this department.

Will pray for you, your wife and sons - hoping you will sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading...and then come back and tell us..OK?

By the way, I appreciate everything everyone has said... everyone has given me a lot to think about and chew on.

While I did mention money and benefits, one of the most important factors for us is insurance. As most of you know I have had some very serious health issues over the last couple of years. I'm doing much better now, but the fact is that I have not been able to go to the doctor since I was laid off and lost my insurance. I'm supposed to see my endocrinologist every 3 months for my diabetes... but I have not been able to afford to go for 18 months now. I had to postpone my cardiologist appointment that was scheduled for this month.

So there is a lot more to it than just money. I wanted everyone to understand that.

Dear Krispy,

Good to hear from you again.

I sense that there might be a call on your life to forsake all for the sake of the Gospel, but not for a better finacial situation. Maybe now that you have considered the latter, you might be emboldened to consider the former. trust God to open doors for you on the Frontier.

I share the lyrics of this song with you -

“Things We Leave Behind”

There sits Simon,
so foolishly wise
proudly he's tending his nets
Then Jesus calls,
and the boats drift away
all that he owns he forgets

More than the nets
he abandoned that day,
he found that his pride was soon drifting away
It's hard to imagine the freedom we find
from the things we leave behind

Matthew was mindful
of taking the tax,
pressing the people to pay
Hearing the call,
he responded in faith
followed the Light and the Way

Leaving the people
so puzzled he found,
the greed in his heart
was no longer around and
it's hard to imagine
the freedom we find
from the things
we leave behind

Every heart needs to be set free,
from posessions
that hold it so tight
'Cause freedom's not found in the things that we own,
It's the power
to do what is right
With Jesus, our only posession,
giving becomes our delight
We can't imagine the freedom we find
from the things we leave behind

We show a love for the world in our lives
by worshipping goods we posess
Jesus has laid all our treasures aside
"love God above all the rest"

'Cause when we say 'no'
to the things of the world
we open our hearts
to the love of the Lord and
its hard to imagine
the freedom we find
from the things we leave behind

Oh, and it's hard to imagine
the freedom we find
from the things
we leave behind

Lyrics- Michael Card
