The Impact of the Word of God.

Dear saints can somebody please show tbe link to a testimony by D L Moody here he read the word continually and it increased his faith. I know Keith Daniels shared it in a message. But I thought I saw that testimony in text somewhere in the forum. It is the text of the testimony I am trying to find.

In the thread concerning Believers Without the Holy Ghost. Untobabes posted a marvelous testimony concerning D. L. Moody's experience of being baptized in the Holy Spirit. Now may I share with you part 2 of tbe story. Please check the link provided by Mama27 which is a text sermon by Keith Daniels. He shares a marvelous testimony of how Moody built upon his experience of being baptized in tbe Spirit by reading the word of God.

By the way Moody was not an educated nan in theology. He had only a 6th grade education. But mightily used by God.

I remember returning from a mission trip from Peru several years ago. While on the plane waiting to take off there was a nan absorbed in a book. The book was the latest in the Jurrasic Park series. He could not put it down. I was supposed to st next to him. He asked if he could move to a different seat by himself just so he could continuereading his book. Even when the plane was in the air he kept reading it.

This reminded me of tbe men's action novels I would read and tbe comic books I was hooked to. Obviously tbe reading literature I am describing here had no eternal value. When I thought of that nan in tbe airplane reading his Jurrasic Park novel. I wonder. Can we not get that hooked on the New Testament.

I read these testimonies of Keith Daniels and D L Moody and see there move for tbe word of God. Something resonates in ny spirit. I pick up my New Testament and want to read it. Yet when I post these threads here is very little response. These Bibke threads tend to be archived and rather quickly. Am I missing something here?

Something else that has been disheartening. A few in this forum have even discouraged the reading of the New Testament in tbe way Keith Daniels and D. L. Moody have done. It is like tbe Bibke is a holy book and should be read reverently and slowly. Good grief! Explain that to the New convert who cannot get enough of the word of God and cannot put it down. I believe this was the case of Keith Daniels.

I remember a thread that was praising J. C. Ryles book on holiness. . Great book. But when I suggested that the New Testament was a far better book that could make us holy. I was accused if one upmanship.

Can tbe forum please explain to this blind nan why books about holiness and revival are exalted. But tbe scriptures are kind of set aside. I just don't get it.

Tbe persecuted devour the Bible and can't put it down. But we seem to think if it as well. You know read or listen to it. But don't make a big deal of it.

We love to debate tbe truth of tbe Bibke. But do we love to read it? I mean read it where we cannot put it down7

Is this blind man missing something here? Is there something he us not seeing? Would someone please instruct me where I am in error here.

Is it only the Moodys and tbe Keith Daniels who love tbe word to tbe degree that they will read it and it changes tbeir lives. But we only want to eat tbe crumbs that fall from tbe masters table. When he invites ys to devour a feast of 66 books. The blind man is confused. Would someone please explain it to him.

Dear sister I read the average person spends about 4 to 6 hours a day in front of the television. And we are not speaking of tbe time one spends on FB, Twitter, internet, or other social media. I know if I do not limit myself, I would spend more time in SI then reading or listening to the word.

Again I would have to pose my question. There are those who love to debate the word. But how much time do they spend reading it. And that for tbe joy of simply reading it.

In contrast I read of the Chinese believers who are investing in the next generation of leaders in their churches. There are secret discipking sites set up around China. The young people will go and work kn a cottage industry during tbe day. And at night spend several hours reading and studying the word. And one wonders why there is revival in China and not the west.

Arthur I spend most of my time in the New Testament. I read or listen to it much like one would read or listen to an audio book. As such I start in Mathew and go through Reveakation. Than start over.

I rise early in tbe morning around 3:30 or so and get some coffee. Then spend an hour or longer listening to my audio New Testament followed by prayer, just conversing with God. Trying to get a sense of what is on his heart and pray for those things. I find listening to tbe word before my prayer time sharpens my prayers andt they are more Christ centered..

I carry a Nee Testament in my pocket or pack and read it during tbe day when time permits. Generally trying to pick up where I left off in listening to it. So my time in tbe word is a combination listening and reading.

I am sure what I do is not perfect and may be frowned on by some. But for me it does work and God does seen to bless it.

Arthur would you share what your pproach to tbe word is. Always good to hear how others are being blessed jn tbe word.

Brother indeed. That was the verse that do impacted Moody. Would that ut would impact us.

Last night I read an account of a Moslem convert who got his first Bibke. He read it in five days and could not put it down. He told the evangelist who gave it to him. I am going to read it again. The evangelist replied. I think that is a good idea. This evangelist who gave out Arabic Bibles and New Testaments said reading the Bible is like taking the blindfold off a blind person.

I read countless profiles of believers in persecuted countries who receive their first and maybe only Bible and New Testament. It is their only book and they read it faithfully. For hours on end. And God changes their lives. And these dear saints are used to bring revival to their nation. What do these precious saints say to us.

In tbe beginning of our walk with Christ our New Testament becomes a source if Jou and delight. We revel and delight in tbe treasures of Christ. But along tbe way we lose that love for Christ's word. Some people, perhaps well meaning, say we need to read other books about the Bible. Soon the Bible is just one book that sits in our theological library.

What puzzles me us we will read books about revival. We will read Wesley, Finny, Moody, Whitfield, Edwards, etc. We marvel and wish to see God move in tbe same way. We read books about revival. But we do not read tbe book that bings revival. It's almost like we read a cook book on how to prepare a meal. But God has already set before us a meal, a feast, a banquet of 66 wonderful books called the Bible.

Their are testimonies of how tbe Bible has impacted saints in times past. How these saints were instruments of revival. Some may say well that was then. Yet in the persecuted nations we see revival occurring because of believers reading the book of revival. That is the word of God.

Saints we can fall into one of these groups of people. We can continue to read about revival. That is read about the glorious movements of times past. And pine away for those times. We can continue to debate the Bible and theoligize. Or we can dare to do as Moody did. Take our Bibles and ask God to change us through tbe extensive reading of his word. And ask that God bring revival to America through me. And start by reviving me.

Dear saints. God grant I be of tbe latter. God grant that just a few hear that call and desire to be those vessels of revival filled with his living word.

Arthur I will surely be praying for God to bless you in his word as you make it a priority. I have heard many good things about tbe Horner Reading Plan. Never knew they had a listenibg plan. Have to check that out. Being legally blind. I find myself listening more through tbe ear gate

Desr saints, I think the tragedy in the Northeast has convinced us of the need for revival in the nation. this is not the time to read anotherr book on revival history. This is not the time the study revivals of times past. Might I suggest respectfully that we put Edwards, Whitfiekd, and Wesley aside. And pick up the book of revival. Pick up the book that will revive.

Earlier in this thread Mama 27 posted a link to the text sermon by Keith Daniels. This sermon is also available in audio form in the SI archives.  In the sermon Keith shares the testimony of the power of the word of God. He uses examples from his own life, from the life of his father, and the life of D. L. Moody. He speaks of the impact of the word of God in their lives. And how their prayers were answered. Most notably prayers for revival.

Saints if we want to be agents for revival. Then please read or listen to the sermon by Keith Daniels. Then let us soak ourselves in tbe book of revival, the book that will bring revival, the Bible. And let us ask Gof to bring revival to this nation using us.

God is looking for people to be history. That is to be His Story .
