HEY EVERESTOSAMA

Hey Bro,

I had a question to pose to you as a person who is involved in missions in an Asian culture.

I have seen you post previously as to the physical demands of missions in your culture.

What do you belIeve is a God ordained standard to use as far as physical preparation to be successfully involved in over seas missions for American youth in the coming year?

Thanks!

Jason

It depends on where you're going honestly.

Like for myself, I just had to get used to walking everywhere. If one comes to a place like Japan or China, the physical demands will be much different than say one going to the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, or somewhere like that, as the living conditions will be much different.

I would say one of the most important ones though, that would be the same no matter where you go is food. Eat whatever is put in front of you. I've seen countless missionaries (and I'm talking long term ones here) that pay large amounts of money to maintain their western diet, and simply won't assimilate into the culture's food.

I was the pickiest child I think I've ever heard of, and by the grace of God now, I can eat anything put in front of me. If it's possible for me to eat some of the absolutely crazy things they eat here (raw horse, rotten soy beans, etc.) then anyone can eat the strange stuff, wherever they go. As one caveat on this subject I'd say be careful though, as many east Asian countries will still consume blood, so it's wise to check that out a bit first.

All in all though, I think it really depends on where you're going in east Asia. Physically Japan just requires being able to walk sometimes in rather unpleasant conditions (yet, it's nothing compared to the more humid and tropical locations in Asia).
