Secession petitions filed in 20 states

U
UntoBabes Nov 12, 2012

In the wake of last week's presidential election, thousands of Americans have signed petitions seeking permission for their states to peacefully secede from the United States. The petitions were filed on We the People, a government website.

States with citizens filing include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Oddly, folks from Georgia have filed twice. Even stranger, several of the petitions come from states that went for President Barack Obama...Read more

In the words of Associate Justice of the SC Potter Stewart:

"this is uncommonly silly"

We should be praying, not seceding.

This is just fun to watch because it is so silly. Really? I wrote a little blog article on the election and some thoughts of mine that have rolled around as a result.

One of them is if God is still on the Throne and this election was 'lost' by conservatives, who usually believe in God then what happened during the election? Were prayers answered but conservatives didn't like the answer so they resort to kicking and screaming? If God is still on the Throne and prayer changes things than what was the message? Easy answer is judgement but is that really a true answer to this election? I think it is a copout personally.

You are obviously not from the South. :-)

I dont think this is a conservative movement as much as it is the "fly-over" states feeling that their votes dont count and no one is listening to them because the population centers such as NYC, Boston, Philly, etc dominate the elections.

I personally think that is a very legtimate complaint. It does not matter what anyone thinks or votes for in a national election because the vote is decided by the time the polls close in New York City.

Perfect example: New York State... if you look at the county by county maps of the election result the entire state is red... except in Buffalo to the west, Albany to the south east, and NYC. Why should people outside those 3 small geographical areas even bother to vote? They are never going to be heard.

Almost the entire state of Texas was red. You can just about fit Europe into Texas... and yet they were not heard.

There is a lot of frustration in this country right now, and I dont think it helps anything for people to call frustrated Americans "silly". In fact it's just another way to downplay their concerns and to make their frustration grow even more.

Nope im from So Cal lol

But really I meant praying for our leaders because the leaders we have now were divinely instituted. All things work for good. This of course does not mean we shouldn't participate in the political process. We should. But we shouldn't resort to seceding merely because our political choices did not come to pass.

I think that such thinking is silly and divisive.

Quick question... just something think about Elias: Were our founding fathers wrong? Should they have just accepted what King George was doing and just prayed for him. Where do we draw the line?

I hear a lot of Christian saying what you're saying (and I agree with you!), but they forget that if our own founding fathers had not thrown off the burden of King George from their backs... we wouldnt even have the right to say what we're saying right here.

So what our founding fathers? Many of whom believed what they were doing was God's will... and God wrought many miracles during that war. The history of the Revolution in America is lost today, but God did amazing things during that time.

Our founding fathers were not wrong. Their concerns were with a government that was in a different part of the world; they were being taxed without representation; were being policed by a king from far away; etc. so many more things. The difference today is that the framers took all of their grievances and made sure that we didn't have to suffer. Of course it hasn't been perfect and there have been periods of wrong (civil war, Taney's Dred scott decision) but we have come a long way. So I think our grievances today fail in comparison to what our fathers endured.

Why do the southern states want to secede anyway? I would guess most want to secede because they dislike President Obama. This is not reasonable. Did CA (for example) want to secede merely because we did not President Bush's policies? I think not.

And yes geographically the map is red and most of the influence comes from populated centers such as the one where i live. But we can't forget that even liberal states like CA voted for Reagan, Nixon to name a few. And there's the whole thing about swing states.

And to my last point: many of our most prominent founding fathers did not fear god. They were deists and vehemently opposed any religious interference in the public square. Think Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Thomas Paine, Ben Franklin

hi, i do not know how it is in the other states;but in texas and louisiana it is serious. the fed owes la. residents millions and millions in unpaid debt. if texla ever leaves you better be a prayer warrior. you will not have oil and gas at the cheap 5 dollar prices and the natural gas to cook with. california is bankrupt and needs to be bailed out.jimp

elias... thanx for your response. I agree with what you said, except the last part about many of the founding fathers being against religious intrusion into public life. This is not true at all. This is what our public schools are teaching, but if you do your own research and draw your information from original sources, and not from history books... you get a much different view of what they believed about that. Yes, SOME were deists. SOME were Christians. SOME were neither. But at that point in history almost all of them believed that the influence of Christianity on American life was key to the "Great Experiment" being successful.

I do not believe in the David Barton view of American history, by the way. He has an agenda and he is a history revisionist. It's NEVER good to come at history with an agenda.

True. Am so tired of Christians pretending our Founding Fathers were "Christians". They were not. Washington was a Freemason, as were many others, and Jefferson was Illuminati. He is also known to have had an affair with one of his slaves. Ben Franklin was a Universalist and Mason. I can't think of a single Founder who was a genuine Christian.

I think to say that all of America's founding fathers were freenasons or they were Christians is an imbalanced view.

Both God and Satan were at work in the birth of this nation.

I find this documentary youtube very balanced in addressing both sides.

It is hard not to be appalled by the ignorance of the founding of this nation. Never the less, I don't see how singing a petition to succede from the union is immoral. This is a totally lawful act. I don't believe this a call for armed revolution.
No, our kingdom is not of this world, but that does not mean that we should not take an active part in the way that we are governed.

Illuminati?? Oh brother... I was with ya until that.

Someone else said they cant think of one Christian founding father. Really? You've read all their writings, and journals and diaries and autobiographies... and not one? Or are you basing this statement on what you have heard others tell you?

It's popular on this forum to hate America. It's always been that way here. And it's always been popular on here to look at everything negatively, no matter what it is. (example: Charlie Daniels' name came up on this forum a week ago and immediately someone dug up lyrics to a song he wrote THIRTY years ago to show everyone that there is no way he could be a Christian now... shameful)

I agree with the poster who said to say all founding fathers were Christians, or all founding fathers were freemasons (or worse... Illuminati... oooo!!) is out of balance. But there were many who were Bible believers. Maybe not shared the same exact theology or doctrine as you or me (there are two people on THIS forum who agree all the time), but yes... there were Christians involved in the founding of America. And if you read the original sources you will see even those who were deists believed that the only way this country would work is will due dilligence given to Christian/Biblical principles... and that is an indesputable fact.

Krispy,

I agree with you. There were some genuine, some deists, etc. I was meaning our most prominent.

Dearly Beloved,
what does one profit from seceding? and to the previous post from timg, it is a totally lawful act to petition to secede. Its the motive that i am concerned about. Why do (Southern) states want to secede?
