Get involved in politics

John Knox believed more clearly than most, indeed, in the separation of Church and State, that they are not to be brought together, they are both independent, and they are both answerable to Christ. But he also believed that independence was not isolation, that the one should support the other; and he believed that the Church had a vital role in bringing before the leaders of the day the Bible’s teaching on moral, economic, social, defence matters. He argued strongly for people to get involved in lobbying, in arguing, in representing the case of the Scriptures in whatever forum they could, whether by letter, whether by standing for elections, whether by public meetings, by petitions, or whatever. He would say, “Get involved in politics”.

When I look at the Islam I see a political movement, when I look at the Gay movement I see a political movement, when I see the green movement I see a political movement the list could go on and on.

Should the church get involved in politics, what are your thoughts..

Are these type of discussions not encouraged in this forum? Have not the mods asked us from posting political threads?

When I look at the Islam I see a political movement, when I look at the Gay movement I see a political movement, when I see the green movement I see a political movement the list could go on and on.
Should the church get involved in politics, what are your thoughts..

This can be a kosher conversation on the forums if done Biblically. It is an important question and deserves an answer. To argue over current political problems in America, Canada, etc are unfruitful yet to discuss from Scripture the "true" world-view of Christianity is needed.

I believe almost "all" religions have it in their belief system to take over the state (country politically) to rule over people. Christianity though never will do this if it is apostolic, Biblical and the believe that Jesus Christ taught. Our Lord taught us that we are of another kingdom that is not of this earth. And our position here is just as visitors (pilgrims, sojourners). This is not to say that the morals and example of Christians won't influence countries and even leaders, but the goal of Christianity will never be to take over countries, that will only happen when Jesus Christ the Son of God comes to rule the world for 1000 years.

Therefore I believe there has never been a Christian nation that God recognized. There could be many Christians "in" a nation but in the end all nations will hate Christians (Matthew 24:9). May we spend our time and energy co-laboring with God to build His kingdom and not seek to build a kingdom of man trying to make a nation Christian.

God is "calling out" of every nation a people for his own, a Holy Nation not of this earth, a royal priesthood. What a privilege to be a part of this. So if God has called you to a vocation in politics clearly that is fine but make it your 100% goal to serve the Lord and to build His kingdom and do your job as a job not as a ministry to try and Christianize and control a country.

It is good when there is a righteous leader who is even Christian, but this is not our aim and goal we must be content with another if this is God's will. We do not fight against flesh and blood.
