Parting is such empty sorrow

sermonindex Nov 22, 2012

\t
Parting is such an empty sorrow
Yet there is always a sweet tomorrow
There is such a pain within my heart
When that time comes that we must part

And the minutes and hours that slipped away
Were taken for granted day by day
Until the time comes when you have to leave
And I’m left standing with my heart on my sleeve

Can there really be a sweet tomorrow?
My heart wonders as it fills with sorrow
I just never know if I will see you again
Which is why my heart feels such pain

There is an agony in long good-byes
And tears fall from swollen eyes
And in my heart you’re never far away
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, or so they say

But time and distance fogs the mind
And the best that memories do is to rewind
And think again of times gone past
And time with you that went too fast

All that counts is the here and now
And time is not defied, all must bow
To the incoming tide and perpetual waves
That inevitably leads us to our graves

So live in the now, each minute each day
Pray to the Lord to show you the way
Of a heart wide open and ready to give
Of a heart full of love always ready to forgive

Soar with the eagles, run with the bulls
Adorn your heart with incredible jewels
Of love and joy and peace of mind
Let men look to you, these things to find

Then time will simply be a means to an end
Space for all manner of fences to mend
And when we pass over and time is no more
We shall stand and gaze from eternities shore

amen.

thank God for the Holy Spirit.

Hezwelling writes.......

"thank God for the Holy Spirit."

Amen to that. I wrote this poem more about time than anything. It is amazing that when we are in His presence then time is meaningless. I believe this gives us just a glimmer of what it means to stand outside of time............bro Frank

Thank you brother Frank for this poem and for this line...
" It is amazing that when we are in His presence then time is meaningless."

Both did speak to me today!

Brother Frank,
A very timely and beautiful word!
Life is but a breath, our days are like a fleeting shadow!

"A heart wide open and ready to give
Of a heart full of love always ready to forgive."

This is how we must live here and now in Christ our Lord.
Lovely poem.

This is so beautiful Frank.

Did you write it of your time with your grandson?

HI untobabes,

Very perceptive :) He was the initial motivator but as I sat down to write it, I had at the back of my head that it would speak to those who had lost loved ones, and indeed I was contacted by just such a person the day after I published it online. I was also thinking about the nature of time. What I love about poetry, besides the fact that it is the most ancient form of teaching, is that it speaks to many different people on many different levels about many different things. One poem can speak to a million different situations but the fundamentals of life are always in the background................bro Frank

I was thinking of the nature of time too lately.

Time is a funny, and cruel thing. The difference between the living and the dead is time, the joy of saying hello and the sorrow of saying good bye is time, embraing and parting, loving and hating, peace and war, the fire of enthusiasm and the coldness of boredom.

I visit the cemetary quite often and ponder this issue of time. Time is what makes the difference between the lump standing on the ground and the one burried beneath.

Time is an ever rolling stream that bears its sons away, they fly forgotten as a dream that dies at the opening day.

I look forward to the day when time shall be no more, to ever enjoy the presence of Him who is bigger than time.

Thank you brother and God bless your meditative poetry to many hungering hearts and souls with His annointing.

Untobabes wrote...........

"Time is an ever rolling stream that bears its sons away, they fly forgotten as a dream that dies at the opening day.

To which I would reply..........

"A thousand ages in thy sight are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun." :)

Time and space. Our time here on earth. As a child I used to take a short cut through a very old cemetary. The headstones went back to the 1500s. I would look at those headstones and know that each one represented a life lived and that all people, including myself, would one day end up under that same ground. It gave me such a yearning to make some kind of impact on this world that would outlast me. I still dream of writing something like "Amazing grace" that, should the Lord tarry, would continue to minister long after I am gone. Something of eternal value. This is the great nature of Christianity. It does men well to know that their "time,' here on earth is relativly short.

As an apprentice Bricklayer, the old stone mason who was my mentor, was always telling us young men that we were wishing our lives away because we were always longing for the end of the day or for Friday and so on. He said to me "Frank, it was only yesterday that I was 21, life goes by very quickly. One day you will wake up and you will be my age." I remember giving his words very little thought, just thinking it was the ramblings of an old man, I had no true perception of what he was talking about being only 17. And now I have awoken and I am almost 50. Time must be used and not wished away. Every moment of every day must be lived.

Life must not be like a tube of toothpaste. I use my toothpaste liberally and without thought until I get down to a small amount. Then I have to eek it out and squeeze and make it last. If I had been more diligent when the tube was full and would not find myself in that predicament, and no matter how many times I think about it, I do the same again with the next tube. Well, we have one life, just one. Each day should be lived in the context of life itself has an end, not in a morbid sense for we know where we go when it ends, but in a useful sense. It must work for us not against us. We should be masters of time not mastered by it. Okay, my ramblings have came to an end. Just an unusual peek into the scattered thinkings of my mind :)......bro Frank
