Shallow sermons, lack of holy spirit, Lack of love in church

Leviticus 19:34 KJV
But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

John 13:34 KJV
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
John 15:9 KJV
As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
John 15:12 KJV
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
John 15:17 KJV
These things I command you, that ye love one another.
John 15:19 KJV
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

When walking into new churches it is so easy to see how people do not talk to you, despised in church or hurrying back
As I have had nightmares with churches recently I love church but so find that some churches lack the holy spirit or depth of teaching

With some churches when going into churches you can feel the tension or how it is a one man show, there are many times where people are so hardened by television, violence and media shows, life
As the bible say that people's love has grown cold
Cancer and other diseases abound , in church fights

The church is suppose to be a sanctuary from the world and are homes a sanctuary from the world , to someone who is desperate to find a church.

My most grievance is that pastors have resources like no other today and have no excuse for poorly studied sermons , when people can look at say Greek and Hebrew words on there mobile phone an check vast commentaries.
There is archaeology and other resources , dating, different opinions on different passages.
Hosea 4:6 KJV
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

We live in an information age and yet our knowledge of say god is say the least lacking , most people are more a database of movie, sports databases than they are databases of scripture

With studying and reading so many Christian books are lack of history and knowing great missionaries, early church fathers and there defense of there faith, it seems we lack the eloquence of say Charles spurgeon or tyndale

Also with being an information based generation it means that ministers should be accountable as anything they say can be looked up in a moment

Not all pastor are like this but if information is not presented without love Siri, as how many clanging gongs have we got in church

The holy spirit is vital, I always remember a story on sermonindex that he would not preach unless the holy spirit was there and refused to preach until he heard from god

When we have many people suffering sensitivity to the holy spirit, only god knows what members are going through, Daniels wisdom in discerning the dream of Nebuchadnezzar which only god would know

How many graveyards of churches, do people ever ask is the church I am in dead , has the holy spirit left ? Even the most dead church would say it has the holy spirit but it could be as dead as the graveyard outside with tombstones and moss where once a lively church used to be and routine sets in people come in , worship take there seats,
I love the story of a minister who took his congregation past a coffin with a mirror and they all went past to see who this dead person was,
As a congregation it was them

Sensitivity to the holy spirit is so lacking I love the story I think Charles spurgeon tells of god telling this man to knock at a door in a strange town and when opening the door finding that man is just about to commit suicide

On a personal note I struggle with church to find somewhere to cater for my both my mind and agonisation for the holy spirit , boring sermons and Cold people frozen with hard hearts

Beloved,
Perhaps part of the problem is that you have been searching for a church.
Consider asking the Lord to lead you to His own in the town where you live. He knows where His sheep are, He will lead you there.
I hope this helps!

It is hard to know what to say, but let me offer a few thoughts. First, not everyone who is called "pastor" is a Christian or even knows the Lord. They just know how to give a message, and it may not even be a Christian message.

A good church with God's people in it is hard to find, but God usually has people everywhere, so keep seeking and praying.

You are right, most places with the name "church" in the title do not have the Holy Spirit in them, so don't be deceived. Satan of course uses this to deceive many. Accept this as a fact and go on with the Lord.

I have to agree with jimp. Why don't you just be the difference? Why does a church have to cater to you specifically. Posted on the front page is a message by Gary Wilkerson. He quotes 1 Corinthians, I believe it was, and how Paul was unable to preach meat to the Corinthians church because they were so carnal. Is it not possible that some of these pastors are only preaching what they feel their congregants can hear? Be the light. Speak to the pastor to find out where his heart is on these matters. Don't assume that you are more spiritual than a church body because you weren't greeted like you thought you should be. Maybe there is a lot of tension in the church. Why can't you be the light of Christ and a joy to the pastor by being used by the Holy Spirit to help usher in a new move? I think we give up too easily with churches that we don't think are "good enough" for us. Why don't we stay and fight for something we find so important?

Hi Delta. Many thoughts here. As you have so well said, we are in an 'information' age. Compared to the past generations we have a 'Benjamin' portion, but we lack the relationship that brings forth the qualities you long for.

Matthew 11:21 KJV
Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

Keith green says that greater light gives greater responsibility

During the reformation there would be like about 12 bibles in English, tyre and Sidon were condemned for having miracles and not believing them
If there was one bible in the country would we have the hunger to read it

I would agree with the relationship side of things but it seems preachers and pastors tend to have no accountability with blatantly wrong information
Do we have CEOs or pastors as pastors are told to feed the sheep and care for the flock
Shallowness is prevelant in peoples relationship with god,
Pastors can actually hinder people from learning about Jesus if they want to only go on one level
Members in the church will only study or go to the level that there pastor goes to , with the advent of the Internet it seems pastors almost need a wake up call In the areas of prayer , compassion and studying
As the world tends to portray Christians as dumb

Dear deltadom,

I can relate brother and I too experience some of the same things you have mentioned. When we are in a dark area or wilderness experience the words of men will not satisfy the longing of our thirsty heart. We need the words of spirit and life! We need a fresh Word from Heaven and a Revelation of the Risen Christ as both the Lamb and the Lion, the Great Shepherd, The First and the Last, the I am, the Meek and Lowly One, the mighty solider in battle with fire in His eyes and a sword coming out of His mouth.

I pray that the Lord will lead you and many of us who are in this dark hour and seeking to be united and strengthened by our brothers, to be the exact representation of Christ on the earth, to reign with Him, to suffering with Him, to be a drink offering poured out daily, to be filled with all the fulness of God and comprehend His DEEP love for us and all the saints.

I do know Greg is burdened and working on finishing a book for the purpose of encouraging the gathering together of the saints.

Let's try to yield to His rod and allow Him to bring us to the end of ourselves until nothing remains but Christ and His Spirit.

“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, STRENGTHEN your brothers.”

May the Lord breath afresh on you today my brother,

Kenneth Martin
