It looks like there was a serious impact with Ezra, but the people were probably more receptive than the average crowd today.

Bearmaster: I am not sure that simply reading the Word brings revival, but allowing the Word to transform your life does. As I am transformed by the Word and as I learn to walk in the Spirit (Which is inseparable from the Word as Jesus said that His words were spirit and life), I will necessarily begin to be consumed by the things of God to a greater and greater degree. I think this is perhaps the best definition of "revival" and should be the norm for a believer.
The Word of God is powerful. "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12
I have rarely heard the Word of God, whole portions of the Bible read on Sunday mornings.
I've rarely heard the Psalms read out loud in churches. I've heard snippits and pieces, sermons and stories but when a man or woman of God filled with the Holy Spirit reads the Word of God , and I'm not just talking about recorded versions, (though those are good). I'm talking about REAL TIME. Yes, reading the Word of God out loud brings life!
If I am down and out I ask someone to come read psalms to me or encouraging scriptures and life starts flowing into me. They don't even have to believe it, but when I hear it, I am filled with the reality and peace of our God.
I was so starved for hearing the Word of God in church that I went to a Chabad where the Rabbi reads scriptures really fast and in Hebrew for about an hour at a time, but as I followed along in English, i started weeping! I was so hungry just to hear the Word read out loud!
Why do we do everything BUT the public reading of scripture.
So, in my life, yes, Bearmaster, the Word of God read out loud brings personal and public revival.

If we are admonished to give attention to the public reading of scriptures then why are the pastors not doing this. As sister Lesmanto testified she went to hear a rabbi read tbe Torah because of her hunger to hear the word. Thus do tbe Jews value their Torah more than we value tbe New Testament?

hi, i have always been taught that revival was a sovereign act of God. prayer and honoring the word with obedience is something that has always moved God.jimp
i think a good tree will not bare bad fruit
we should not and assume that all these christans in the so called church ,are christans
we have the sheep and goats
we have the weat and tares
the sheep and weat are in one spiritual fold
the goats and tares are not in this fould ,tho all these feed and grow together
it is normal for most self professed christans to not read there bible ,,,,,because they are not bornagaing christan
