Hello,

Is it right to tell a person he offended you even if you have offeneded the offender in the past?
I am looking for scripture (KJV) answers if any please.

Thank you

Sorry I use NASB which I believe is more accurate than KJV. Also the man of God I admire the most uses this version!

Matthew 15:12-Then the disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?” But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted.

Jesus called the Pharisees who got offended as the Plant which heavenly Father did not plant in his garden. They are like weeds.

It is not Good to get offended when someone with Spiritual authority our us corrects us. For instance when an elder in Church corrects us or asks us not to speak in Church. Not getting offended shows our humility.

But when someone speaks harshly to us or insults us, I don't believe it is wrong to tell them that it is offending you. For instance when Jesus was struck by a soldier for no reason at all he asked him why he struck him. Jesus has forgiven him immediately but he also asked for his right to be treated with respect (John 18:23).

@jimp,

the person did not offend me by using me
the person offended me when he laughed and cracked jokes at my expense
as well as spoken hurtful words about me to another
(i overhead the telephone conversation)

There is another situation (between myself and a different friend of mine)where I was the one that betrayed trust in the friendship, this particular person has offended me with words that are not edifying, more like stumbling blocks ... this person constantly does this to me. I don't believe this person knows, otherwise the person would stop.

This is why I asked the question I originally asked. Thank you for suggesting me to pray for that person. I still will pray for them.

Should I tell these offenders they offended me or not? Or let it go?
