Major meteor shower hits Russia

S
sonofthunder Feb 15, 2013

News just in Russia has been struck by a major meteor strike::

With 600 PEOPLE TO HAVE REPORTED INJURIES THUS FAR.

Extraordinary amatuer video of the meteor is available on yahoo:

Early reports are there was a massive explosion heard when it finally landed on terra firma and one can see the huge meteor and its blazing trail all captured on video.

According to reports it set off many car alarms - and knocked out smart phone communication networks when it struck.

There is also reports of a lot of shattered glass and debris in nearby builings and properties.

Another note of interest ... for those ...interested is.

Only the Day before this occurence ( in russia) japan had a huge fireball blaze and light up there skies ...which was captured on video for all to witness as well.

But back to russia the latest information now is 700 people are reportedly injured from the shower. And some sources are saying the meteor was actually reduced in size To what it was ....due to the defence force breaking it down in size before final impact.

Otherwise it would have been manifold worse in destruction.

Reports indicate disruption to major network systems.

I.e. the internet and mobile phone service providers.

ALMOST 1000 INJURED - And 6 towns in total affected:

3 people are reported critical.

Experts say this kind of occurence is rare. But can and does happen.

The video footage is well worth a look saints.

I wonder if it is predicted in the Bible. Wonder if Russia is under Judgment from God. They are helping Iran get the nuclear bomb. God means business. God will not be mocked.

At least we have sensible comment here.

Without sarcasm, mocking, and ridicule.

Ignore sacrcastic posters.

They will wax worse and worse.

Good comments by last poster. Thanks.

Notice the other poster couldnt care less about the injured

Hmmm.

Notice his only interest was in trying to deride the post.

This person who ever he is ...cares not for those directly affected.

His goal is to try and make me look silly.

Go ahead.

God is watching.

Others bare record of your intent - and will take note.

Video of this event is fascinating. Ironically it gives off a Hollywood vibe to movies that deal with the end of the world such as Independence Day.

I will be interested to see what science will say about the rock part of it because I am sure they will be able to get the rock and do experiments on it to see what it is made of and where, in the Universe, it may have come from.

Now, from an end times thing, why does an event create and end times discussion? What about the crater in New Mexico. How long ago did that happen and was it a sign of judgment at that time? I think we tend to be too quick to want to give an incident such as this a 'judgment' sign of God because it will fit with our belief/theology but how accurate is that? Christians are called out to be in the world but not of the world yet is this thinking balanced or just crazy? I lean toward the latter.

Hello SOT--

Do you think this specific event has to do with "end times?"

If so, why? Deadn's pont is well-taken-- meteors are constantly bombarding the earth. I heard today that the one that struck Siberia in 1908 was about the same size as the one that passed by the earth 17000 miles away today at 2:25 pm.

I am just curious, not mocking.

of course i have compassion for those who were injured in this. my comment had 2 do with the fact that every time sumthing like this happens it sparks the "oh no, its the last days" discussions. thats it. my comment was not even pointed at u persay, but rather at those folks who think everything is an endtimes sign.

no1 else who has commented so far has said anything about those who were injured either, yet u single me out. i do not think that it is necessary to disparage any1's character here like u did mine. i will not do that 2 u, brother.

i forgive u.

do u want a serious comment (although my first 1 was serious)? if god is supposedly judging russia in sum way, why does he always seem 2 be taking it out on innocent civilians, sum of whom are children? why duznt he drop a meteor on the kremlin? why punish those in russia who have nuthing 2 do with arming iran?

answer that 1 for me if u can.

Maybe I need a good pair of reading glasses, but could someone please point out in any of sonofthunder posts, were he said the meteor in Russia was a sign of the end times?
Thanks
Mr. Bill

You are correct Mr Bill, he did not.

I am still curious if S.O.T. thinks this is an end times harbinger.

Unfortunately we jump to conclusions when we see items like this posted in a theology forum.

But, the other day S.O.T. posted something about solar flares as well, in which he wrote: "The bible predicts there will be great signs in the heavens in the last days." so I am just curious what he thinks about these things in relation to the "end times."

1908 is over 100 yrs behind and no pictures!! It's not everyday there are meteors falling from the skies leaving hundreds of miles of smoke tails behind them!!! iT was very weird and it does leave one to wonder if it has anything to do with the end times. are we not allowed to talk about the end times anymore without being made fun of?

Saints, I believe this is a very fair statement and question to all of us. We must be sober minded and serious about what is coming upon the world. And things such as these disasters and metors from the sky should put the fear of the Lord in us and make us definitely think the end of the age is closing in.

2 Peter 3 is a very important passage to be read to put this soberiety in us. Most of society laughs at such things and plays their music which intoxicates them from reality and what is truly eternal and to be feared.

It is valuable and worth the consideration of all saints such occurrences. Is the world pulling you into its sway? Are you not ready for the coming of the Lord? Does rampant sin and rebellion in society not make you want to grow closer to the Lord and away from such things that are bringing His wrath? Romans 1 and 2 Thessalonians 1 these chapters speak of God's wrath that is coming.

Brother Greg, I will even take this one step farther, I hope and pray all these signs are from the Lord, and his return "will" be soon. I really don't think those that think these things are a sign of the end times, should be looked down upon, because no one can really prove they are or there not. I would personally like to believe, that with every disaster, God is trying to get someones attention, and this scripture just might be a little deeper than some read it. John 4:48 "Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders," Jesus told him, "you will never believe." Come Jesus come!

I am not sure what you mean by there not being pictures of the Tungeska Siberia event- there are lots of pictures that are pretty incredible.

No, we are not hit every day by meteors thanks to our atmosphere. But the moon gets hit a lot- just take a look at it.

You see, the meteor that hit russia today has been traveling through the solar system for who knows how long. It has been on a mathematically precise course since its existence that ultimately today led it to enter the earth's atmosphere and it was just big enough so that it wasnt entirely burnt up and caused some damage but not large enough for widescale destruction. I think it is amazing that it does not happen more often than it does. I think they said that there are about 50 meteor strikes of the earth per year. I used to watch a TV program called "Meteorite Men" about guys who went around looking for meteorites with magnets on the end of sticks. I think that would be pretty cool to do.

I am not "making fun" of persons who relate events like today to "end times." It very well may be; but then again there have been many many terrible natural disasters and destructions as long as man has been on the earth-- and perhaps some before man was on the earth. But that is another discussion :)

I think the most significant sign is Israel becoming a nation again

The first reaction I had when I saw this was: "Come Lord Jesus!"

My second reaction was one of fear that He is coming soon, since I have unsaved loved ones, including prodigals.

My third reaction was to weep before God for those I love that He will save them now that they may enter into eternity.

After this I took time to look at the news footage, and my reaction was: "God is so graceful and merciful." He broke this meteor up into many pieces by having it explode high in the atmosphere (and not close to the ground) so that the impact would not cause more damage. Imagine the devastation if (1) the meteor had not broken into pieces, or (2) the explosion had taken place closer to the ground.

As to the last days discussion: We must understand that Christ told us to live daily as if He is coming today, to be always on the look-out. Even the apostles thought that Christ was coming in their day. Why do we not take this seriously? I think it is because we have so much "studied" biblical prophecy and we are expecting to see an anti-Christ, etc., before we expect Christ's return that we are not being watchful. I think we should heed Christ's own word that He will come like a thief in the night when we least expect Him and remain watchful.

This is one of the best things I have read in a while. Point taken.

Amen.
