Beware the SIN of Sport! Sporting is Sin? Well - that depends upon what type of sport we are referring to doesn't it. "Making sport" of other people who differ from us is not a wholesome game at all - it's "mockery!" This carnal sport will be a very popular game in the last days for we are told that - "mockers will come following their own evil lusts." Mockers are people who really enjoy making sport of other people - especially others who they disdain. Mockers have a fondness for disparaging those who question or judge their "freedom" as folly. The world has made a market out of "making sport" of people - they call it comedy - the scripture calls this type of entertainment "course jesting." The carnal game of "making sport" is most often enjoyed between close friends (soul mates) who share a common disdain for others. Such friends enjoy the sport of subtle jabs and barbs directed towards people they have little affection for. "Making sport" of others through course jesting is sign of a very advanced spiritual cancer - "soulish men who have not the Spirit!" It is an indication that brotherly love has waxed cold and that an individual is abiding in darkness, walking in the mind of the flesh. This is why those who "make sport" of others fail to see the mockery they are involved in - "the darkness has blinded them and they can not see where they are going." Those who are full of the Holy Spirit will never participate in "making sport" of others. Their attitude will be what Paul exhorted Titus to make all the people mindful of - "to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men." Such men remember that they too were very deceived, and that it is only through the kindness and love of God that they are in any way different from their former state. Being deceived is nothing to "make sport" of.
Being judgmental is nothing to "make sport" about. Christ Jesus showed us the way to properly address the religion and deception we observe in the world. He laid down His life and made intercession for the transgressors. Next time we are tempted to "make sport" of others, let's be mindful of our own prior condition and instead of mocking them, let's do unto them what Jesus has done unto us - and make intercession for them. "Making sport" of others is a work of the flesh - making intercession for others is the work of the Spirit.
