No Effect
"Making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.” Mk.7:13
The Gk. word here for effect is "akuroo" which means to disannul.Traditions disannul the Word of God.In the context here it seems He is referring to the spoken and written Word of God,but the Gk.word logos is used here for word and the Living Word was standing there telling them that their traditions was disanulling His Word.Today we have the indwelling Word that can be disanulled by traditions.A lot to consider.
Romans 10:17 Say's "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."So then if the Word is being disannulled then our faith is being effected.
"For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect." I Corinth.1:17
Here the Gk. word for effect is "kenco"which is a little stronger which means to falsify or to make empty. With wisdom of words, the cross of Christ is made empty.Paul say's the Jews want a sign and the Gentiles want wisdom, but Paul say's I preach Christ crucified and the Jews stumble and the Gentiles because of their desire for wisdom say that is foolishness. If we try to explain the cross with wisdom of words,we can end up making the message empty. Now that is a lot to consider.
The cross has it's effect because of our faith in the power of God not in the wisdom of this world.
"Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace."Gal.5:4
Here the Gk. word for effect is "katargeo" and is even more stronger and means to render completely useless. Here Paul is speaking to believers who were not only using the Law to justify themselves before God and before others but were teaching it to others. The Law could not deliver us from the penalty of sin,(our Justification) and neither can it deliver us from the power of sin in our Christian life now,(our Sanctification)and I might add it will not be the Law that delivers us from the presence of sin (our Glorification).Using the Law to justify, sanctify or glorify is simply Self-righteousness and that makes Christ completely useless. Now that is a mighty lot to consider.
The Law cannot produce the Christian life. The Law cannot produce the fruit of the Spirit. We are to walk in the Spirit,(Gal.5:16)Led of the Spirit,(Gal.5:18)Live in the Spirit,(Gal.5:25)
Our hope of being with Him and realizing our righteousness in Him,which we understand by faith now, will then be in full blown reality.
