Sin is no small thing...

I was thinking is sin trivialized today by believers? Do we excuse ourselves or make up excuses so we can carry on how we please? Is the attitude that since GOD loves us and will forgive us pushed so much that no one even cares if they sin anymore? Are the minds of believers so seared that they do not even consider what they do to be sin? Do we take HIS mercy, and love for granted so much that we no longer care who it is we sin against? Do we trample on the gift of forgiveness and salvation with an attitude of expectancy for forgiveness? Where is the brokenness over sin??

When we sin its not just against others, or creation its against GOD! Sin is no small thing to be over looked or brushed aside as if it does not matter.

Yes, it is happening all over the place. It is done in the name of forgiveness, love and tolerance. Calling sin sin will earn you the scorn of 'Christians', ostracism by other religious folks...but then you really do not want to be friends of the enemy of the cross lest you be snookered into its whorl.

Mary Jane, this very same thing grieves my heart deeply as I observe those who call themselves evangelical today. I have never studied "theology" as such - I have only read my Bible and earnestly sought to know Him of Whom the Word speaks. I would have to be a fool to think, in view of what I read in the Book that I can blatantly sin against God and claim the assurance of salvation because of a decision of faith in Christ that I made in the past. My Bible repeatedly warns against falling away. Just a few examples are Matt. 24:13, Heb. 10:26-29, 2 Pet. 2:20-22. James declares that faith without works is dead. My critics will heap "theological" arguments against my simplistic understanding of the Scripture, but I plan to simply ignore them and keep on discovering the delight of fearing God and honouring His commands.

Doesn't scripture tell us in 1 Peter 4 that judgment begins at the house of God?

God hates sin, and will not accept it in His people. Why should He, when His own Son died for those sins?

Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all,
Ecclesiastes 12:13.

I was going to quote that exact scripture...

In discussions with a close brother, we embarked on what is sinful in entertainment - there was a lot of justification of blasphemy, sexual depravity, and more. This was stuff I had been delivered from (and trashed nearly £1000 worth of DVD collection in doing so).

It saddened me that what was once considered sinful is now accepted and justified. I use the example above to show that even a slight compromise is a slippery slope.

Men may say great things about Gods love, compassion, and mercy but they are suspiciously silent about His holiness, righteousness, and sovereignty. (PW quote)
