Fitting it all in - a sign of the times?

P

Brothers,

Canvassing for ideas here as I face a dilemma I believe many of us share:

How do you fit it all in, and how do you chart a course?

I have scripture reading I like to do daily - I try to read through the bible at least once annually.
I have scriptures I try to memorize.
Tens of thousands of sermons by many quality preachers I like to listen to on my Galaxy.
Copious books by many quality authors to read.
Studies for homegroup.
Pray daily.

And I try to work full-time, practise music (I am church muso) and exercise.

How on earth do you fit it in? Any Christian time-management resources you can recommend?

Now, to the over-abundant wealth of sermons and books that are available, how do you chart a course through all this information? You could never listen to everything...

Please help a drowning brother!

I can relate!
I am glad that you ask such a question because it causes me to stop and ask the same question for myself.

I believe the answer is rest.

Dear "drowning brother"

Hear what our Lord says about Himself:

Come to me, all ye who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest to your souls;
for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matt 11 v 28- 30

He speaks seven "I am's" in John's gospel to draw us from ourselves to Himself.

But this is Matthews: "I am meek and lowly in heart", and for the burdened soul who hears Him, there is a promise: "ye shall find rest for your soul"

We all need, at times, to stop what we're doing and "come unto Him", to quieten our minds and "Learn of Him". He has a yoke for us to bear, and it is light and easy.

Your brother

David

I touched on this suject during my Sunday message. I do no believe that we can, nor do I think that we should try to fit everything in. Our duty is to God and to our family. When I say God, I do not just mean prayer and bible study, but also, committing to God's will for our life. Next, make sure that your family is loved and cared for. If you can't fit these things things in properly, you have to let some of the other things go. There are two questions that I think about during times like this: What can I live without? What can't I live without. In order to fit in what really matters in life, I believe these two questions must be asked.

I think the answer is to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. He will not drown you. And you are not going to miss anything if you listen to Him, shutting everything out for awhile. However, you may miss HIM, if you let yourself be drowned by all these other seemingly "good" things.

proudpapa said it! Rest. Also, how would you react if the Holy Spirit told you to set all these things (books, sermons, etc) aside for a prolonged time and just read the Scriptures depending only on the Holy Spirit?

I guess the most obvious question and only you can answer is "have you heard the voice of the Spirit in all of this and what is He telling you?"

Let us yield to the Spirit of God and bring our wills into harmony with His will. Even our "good intentions" may not be His will.
