Feedback on the ESV

sermonindex Jun 1, 2013

Forum I have started listening to the English Standard Version of the Bible. Pleasantly surprised I enjoy it. Background info suggest it is a readable word for word translation with an evangelical emphasis. Reads something like the old NIV83.

Since old NIV being phased out and print and audio versions impossible to obtain. I have listened to NIV2012 but not impressed with the upgrade. I do like this ESV though.

Anybody in the forum using ESV and would like to hear your experiences with it. Please, I ask again, please no KJV debate. I am asking for input in anyone using the English Standard Version.

If one must insist on using a translation based on the eceletic critical text over the use of the traditional recieved text, than I would conclude that a literal translations such as the ESV and NASB far exceed accuracy to that of a pharaphrased dynamic equivalence as is the NIV.

And I personaly trust men like Grudem and Poythress and the such much more than I do those like Baker and Palmer and the such.(just my personal opinion from the writings that I personally have read of theirs)

I use the ESV and enjoy it and the women at the jail enjoy it as well since they can understand it!! I also read my KJV but not as much any more.

God bless,

I must chime in on this thread. I was a long fan of the NIV for much of my early Christian years. Up until I met my wife, I used the NIV. Walking closer with Christ, I found the ESV to be extremely helpful once I dove into Scripture more (Greek, Hebrew, wanting the original meaning, etc). Yes, the translation is more literal, and I have found it challenging at times to understand, but it is still my favorite. I feel the Holy Spirit speaking to me more like an adult eating meat when I read the ESV, compared to a child drinking milk when I read the NIV. Again, that's just me, many people would be reversed with those versions, that's just been my previous Bible version. Be blessed, friend!
