The Spirit of Caleb

sermonindex Jun 9, 2013

Joshua 14:10-11
Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the dexert. So here I am today "eighty-five" years old. I am still as string today as the day Mixes sent me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.

How I love this spirit of Caleb. He was forty when he went to spy out the land. And at 85 he is still of a "different spirit". One wonders if the forty year olds would have kept up with this seasoned warrior of God.

I find the above verses speak to my heart as I will turn 62 this month. Yet I feel as Caleb, vigorous and ready to go out to battle and take new territory for Christ. I prayed recently for a brother who went to Cambodia to minister at 85. The same age ad Caleb. I know a sister who went to India and ministered st 75.

Yet there are some who are saying it will be the young adults that will be the forerunners for Christ. The older seasoned saints must give way to the new young dynamic blood that will soon usher in the kingdom of Christ. Really, says I.

For sure there is a younger generation that God is using and we bless that generation. But my Bible says no where that we are to retire at 65. I lead a national conference call where we pray for the persecuted and global evangelism 3 nights a week. By the grace of God that call has been manned by a team of intercessors in their 50's and 60's. I am still looking for that dynamic young blood to come and pray with us. For they would surely be welcome. Maybe they feel we cannot keep up with them. But honestly, I do not think the young dynamic adults can jeep up with us. For surely those precious saints in their "senior citizen" can pray some powerful prayers. Lest we forget the Hebridies revival was birthed by the prayers of two sisters in their 70's.

This is one bear who is not ready to hibernate. One bear ready to advance the kingdom of God. My prayer. God grant me that same spirit of Caleb.

From the bear den.

Bearmaster.
