"Now go, write it before them on a tablet, And note it on a scroll, That it may be for time to come, Forever and ever: 9 That this is a rebellious people, Lying children, Children who will not hear the law of the Lord; 10 Who say to the seers, "Do not see," And to the prophets, "Do not prophesy to us right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits. 11 Get out of the way, Turn aside from the path, Cause the Holy One of Israel To cease from before us."-Isaiah 30:8-11
I'm convinced that that passage of Scripture is highly applicable to the state many professing Christians and churches today.
A clear example of this for me was yesterday. As I was preaching the gospel on the streets with amplification a man with a bottle of wine in his hand(being under the influence) asked me to read Psalm 100 on the microphone, being very insistent. I tried telling him as respectfully as I could that I felt God wanted me to continue with my current message and could not grant his request. He got upset and said I was only preaching my word and not God's.
Then a lady came up and got the wine bottle and started downing it, and then when I was done preaching she tried to share with me about how well she knows the Lord. I gave her a gospel tract and tried reasoning with her that she must be born again and that no drunkard will inherit God's kingdom. She then tossed the tract in the trash and said no one can judge her.
Sadly, that is the product of a watered down gospel you will hear in many churches today. They prophesy smooth things and don't preach against sin or on the need for repentance. This is why multitudes flock to Joel Osteen and others like him.
But thanks be to God that He has left for Himself a remnant who has not bowed the knee to Baal! Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand"(John 10:27-28). Are you one of His sheep today?
