But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus.
As a God of mercy and comfort It is God's nature to comfort those who are depressed and downcast. In fact, the more we are afflicted, the greater will be the comfort and nearness of Christ Jesus in our life as we cry out to him and approach his throne of grace. Note that it was through Titus that God comforted Paul, may God use us to comfort others in their time of trails.
2 Corinthians 7:6
"Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. " 1 Corinthians 1:3
Comfort: means "to stand besides person, encouraging and helping him or her in a time of trouble. Paul learned in his many troubles that no amount of suffering can separate us from the care and compassion of our heavenly Father. God occasionally permits trouble in our lives in order that we having experienced His comfort, may comfort others in their troubles.
