Should Christians Say... "God Bless America"?

Given the current attitude and state of our nation, is it right or proper to ask a Holy God to bestow His blessing upon us?

It would be more appropot to say Repent America!

As I drove along the road one afternoon I noticed a bumper sticker on the vehicle ahead of me. As we approached a red light the vehicle stopped. I was able to read the bumper sticker. It was a very old bumper sticker and was worn with age. I read it, and then had to read it again because I thought I'd read it wrong. As I got a closer look I realized that there was a letter that was so worn it wasn't legible. The worn-out letter was a "B". It was intended to read something else but now read truthfully. It said:

God_less America!

I found this website:

http://www.repentamerica.com

Repent America (RA) is an evangelistic organization based in the birthplace of America, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which regularly engages in street preaching.

From their website:

REPENT v. To turn away from sin, to sorrow or be pained for violating God's holy law, a dishonor to His character and government, and the foulest ingratitude to a Being of infinite benevolence.

These are my sentiments exactly savannah. Thanks for the link.

This is actually a topic I address in the 'studies' section of my website. I have also brought up the subject on Facebook. At that time I had a a few responses but nowhere near overwhelming. At least not as many responses as I had received when posting about some 'political' issue in the past. Honestly, I am not sure if the lack of response was due to people having an indifferent attitude, simply quietly agreeing and nodding heads, or actually taking offense to the proposal we should refrain from asking God to bless this country.

James,

I checked out your website, read your personal testimony and must say I was blessed - blessed to see how the LORD pursued you in spite of the odds against him having the victory!

Blessings.

Thank you ginnyrose! I am so glad my story was a blessing. This has been my hope.

Indeed, all 'Glory to God!' Had it not been for His pursuit, overcoming grace, and His providential hand at work in my life, which I can look back upon now and see. My circumstances would be entirely different.

"Praise Jesus! I am a son of the one true living GOD!"

May the Lord bless and keep you,

James

I am not sure why we would not ask God to bless America.

What is the alternative- that we ask him to curse America?

How about asking that He bless America with a great spiritual revival/awakening?

By the way, if you do ask God to curse America, please exclude TMK from that prayer.

Thanks!

Given the current attitude and state of our nation, is it right or proper to ask a Holy God to bestow His blessing upon us?

Another "should we do this" or "should we do that".

Blessing from the Lord is not always, abundance. It can also be judgment and the wilderness.

You should do and say what the Lord directs you to do and say. And no one can condemn that.

His way to bless people is oftentimes to chastise and judge them, which will help to bring them to their senses, wake them up and lead them to repentance.

So, God.....bless.....America....(as you in your inimitable wisdom see fit).

God is always looking to bless men by bringing them to the Cross. The problem is, we don't often agree with His methods and how blessed HE thinks they are.

No matter,,,,after one is delivered and saved, they will see the wisdom in God's ways.

God,,,,,please bless America and every country and their people on earth!!

The purpose of this post was not to engage in a debate regarding the semantics of the term "bless". But, to emphasize the need for our nation to repent.

I cannot fathom asking the Lord to consecrate and bestow his favor upon a nation that murders its children, seeks to legitimize homosexuality, and defiantly mocks Him at every turn.

I am of the opinion that Christians should be interceding for America, "God forgive America, "God help America", "God revive America".

I believe the judgement of God abides upon this nation, and we should take a cue from Abraham in his pleading for Sodom.
