Are We Acquainted with God's Holiness?

Because the absolute holiness of God has been disregarded by many ministers and churches, many professing Christians have a highly unbalanced view of God’s character. Many are under the notion that God is not that much concerned with sin, all sin. They think God is so loving, kind, gracious and merciful that He sort of overlooks some sins. Sadly, many think they can have a right relationship with God while making excuses for their sins, having no desire to turn from all known sin in their lives.

Yet God makes it clear that we must repent of all known sin, not just the “big” ones. God says in Ezekiel 14:6, “Thus says the Lord God: “Repent, turn away from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations."

Hebrews 12:14 makes it clear that without holiness we will not see the kingdom of God.

Does that mean we can be perfect in this life? Of course not. But if we are born again of God’s Spirit we will grow in holiness, confessing and forsaking known sin in our hearts and lives. We will be sensitive and humble regarding sin and will not make any excuses for any known sins.

So dear friends, in love I ask, are you involved with anything that you know you shouldn't be involved with? Do you have no real desire to turn from any and all sin? Do you make excuses for any known sin you are involved with? If so, with all due respect, it may be proof that you know not God. The truth is, it matters not whether we say we believe in God, because even demons believe in God and tremble. Jesus said many people draw near to God with their lips while their hearts are far from Him. It matters not whether we go to church every Sunday or serve in the church or pray, or whether we say we've been a Christian for a long time.

The true litmus test of whether or not we know and love Jesus Christ is our 24/7 walk with Him, our continual abiding in Him and growing in holiness. Are we sensitive to sin and humbled when God convicts us of it, either through His Word as we read it or through someone else whom God uses to point it out for our own good? Or do we simply get angered when we are confronted regarding our sin? Do we show no genuine godly sorrow over our sin?

May God search our hearts and may we examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith. And may God raise up faithful ministers who will boldly declare and exalt the holiness of God in this generation.

I'm sure that to some this may sound like a broken record but please understand, many of God's people are getting tired of hearing the same type of weak preaching coming from today's pulpits.

This is an excellent topic to discuss, however if we truly want get to the heart of the matter we must ask this question, do you love God with all your heart, do you love neighbor as you love yourself. These two laws are the plumb line which all the laws and the prophets hang from. They cover the big sins but they also cover the little sins as well.

Dear friends there is hope we can be Holy but not in our own strength, Jesus fulfilled the Sabbath by becoming our Sabbath. The Holy Spirit has been sent from Heaven to be our comforter and to bring forth the life of Christ in us. He enables us to enter into God’s Sabbath Rest and live out the life of Christ fulfilling the Law. Loving God with all our heart, loving our neighbor as you love yourself.

Don’t let anyone burden you with guilt so as to get you to perform “religious works” so that you to try harder, this is the error that the Galatians fell into, they started in the Spirit but tried to live Holy life’s through the flesh. Jesus says “come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” The Key for living a Holy life is the Holy Spirit, the key for holiness in your life is a personnel Pentecost. Let them say of you that you’re a man/woman full of the Spirit.

But let’s not fool ourselves can we claim that we are “full of the Holy Spirit” because we can talk in tongues, we may operate in other gifts, but then turn around and kick our dog in anger? If we are full of the Holy Spirit then we will be full of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Let’s us turn to God for a second time and ask to be filled to the full with the Holy Spirit, let us surrender everything that we didn’t lay down at conversion and surrender all and receive a personnel Pentecost.

When God has a man or group of people surrendered to his will and filled with the Holy Spirit then revival will break out Acts 11:24 For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. Personnel Holiness being filled full of the Holy Spirit is key for revival, look at any great man of God you’ll find that he received from God a second deeper work of the Spirit in his life. God has that for you and for me as the revival God plans to send is a revival where his people are Holy and filled full of the Holy Spirit not just one or two men.

So I encourage you as I encourage myself by writing this let us turn back to God and embrace all he has promised us, let us believe with all our hearts the promises in scripture, let us be identified with Christ death on the cross by surrendering all that we are and all that we have so that the resurrection power can flow in all the areas of our lives. Let us turn from our dead religion of works that we and the church of this age have embraced, as we are heading to one of the greatest times this earth has seen. Let us stand as God’s end time Holy people and confront the powers of darkness, we may be hated but not by all many will listen, some of us may pay the ultimate price and be martyred for the cause of Christ, but we will overcome by the blood of the lamb and by the word our testimony and we will be victorious and will stand on the sea of glass singing the song of Moses and of the Lamb.

Some might interpret a desire for holiness as some kind of mystic, unreachable goal, or as something spoken but never really achieved.

My niece, whom I love but is a long way from God, posted on Facebook a picture of a button (like the old political campaign ones) that said:

"Sometimes I wrestle with my demons, and sometimes we just snuggle."

Painfully so true for so many. The pursuit of holiness has never been popular, and the path there is not crowded.

My thought on this goes on a slightly different angle. When I ask myself, "What do I want from God?" The answer is summed up in two things, combining to be the character of Christ Jesus. I want intimacy and power, in that order!

Sin is the poison to intimacy, and I have learned that both the easy and hard ways. Power on the other hand, is the fruit of intimacy and it is exactly what God wants from me. Like so many scriptures which are overshadowed by a neighboring verse, John 15:8 makes it clear that the Father is eager to see His people operating in great power. Those who shrink from touching the power of God do not understand what God so desperately wants.

The eyes of the Lord range throughout all the earth looking for men and women who will seek Him with a full heart and do the powerful deeds of the kingdom. Anybody think this will work without holiness? Anybody think that a holy people can't fulfill God's desires?

James 5:16b "...The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much."
