Had to share this insight I heard yesterday at church. Regarding Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”, the pastor said, and I paraphrase,
“It doesn't mean God is first, your family second, then ministry, then work, etc. If we see it that way it’s easy for us to say we don’t really have time for God. But rather, we are to put God first IN our families, IN our work, IN our ministry, etc. That way we are walking in the Spirit wherever we are. And if you have to, that bathroom stall at work makes for a great prayer closet sometimes.”
That really resonated with me because I struggle sometimes with finding or making time to pray for long periods of time at home. I've come to realize that God knows how much time each of us has on our hands and holds us each accountable accordingly, depending on our circumstances.
That doesn't excuse any of us from spending time in the Word and prayer. Yes, we are to manage our time sacrificially in light of eternity and make time daily for Bible reading and prayer. But we must not think that God expects all of us to spend X amount of time doing those things for us to please Him. For example, the believer who does not have a family to provide for and tend to will be held more accountable than the believer who has more responsibilities to tend to.
