Where is the river of living water our Lord spoke of? Is it flowing out of our inner most being like Jesus said it would? If not, are we troubled enough to search for an answer? How does the living water within us become a river flowing out of us? The answer is simple, water must be forced upward under pressure.
Where must this pressure come from? An underground reservoir must first become entirely full, then all the water that continues to fill the reservoir will force water upward. Water under this force will find an outlet to release the pressure the constant filling is creating. This is why we are to be " continually being filled with the Spirit." Only continual filling will create constant flowing!
Anything that quenches the Spirit's infilling will stop the Spirit's outflowing. Water under pressure will flow; water without a flow will stagnate. The answer is really that simple. If rivers of living water are not flowing out of us, either the reservoir is not full yet, or it's no longer being filled.
