Ravenhill says that the church in America is in a bad way. So what has come of the many years he has been preaching? And what of the ministry of the two sons he boasts about? The problem is not in evangelism as he says, that produces fake believers, the problem is in men like him who think that they are anointed but they are not. If he had lived what he preached then revival would have come. He beats an empty drum.

Hi,

Jesus said that He has meat to eat that the disciples did not know about which was to do the Will of His Father which was revealed moment by moment and day by day. He was always full of Life. Mary and Maratha wept for Lazarus because though they saw the Life in Jesus Christ, it was not in them or the means by which they lived. They didn't know resurrection power as more than a doctrine though it was something Martha referred to in hope for her dear brother. Do you think that Martha knew of the times Christ forgave sin? He who forgave sin also has authority to give new life. He was given this authority by the Father and shares it with us through the Holy Spirit who taught Jesus where to go and what to say. He also teaches what not to say and where not to go. The Spirit that instructed Jesus to raise Lazurus from the dead also kept Him from going to him when he was still sick. The not going was as much God's will.

Do you get it now?

Lisa l am not walking in the anointing. I pray to God that one day l will. Once one has, then it is easy to see if others are operating in it. It definitely does not mean preaching a popular message which is what preachers like Ravenhill preach. Everyone wants to see revival, but just talking about it does not bring it about, even longing for it does not.

Men like Ravenhill are pointing the finger outside of themselves for the reason why revival tarries. If others were acting like themselves, they say, then it would come. If they saw that they themselves needed to be revived then we might get somewhere.

I realise l am touching a holy cow here or a golden calf rather in saying that men like Ravenhill and Poonan are wrong. They are not holiness preachers.

I get the same feeling from both of them. but i agree with Jeremy221 as well about being led by the spirit to do this, or not do that. its a learning process for a sinful rebel like me to learn how to obey a wholly good God. but that in essence is revival, correct?

Hi NoahJD,

For a more recent perspective, please examine the last two featured sermons by Jim Cymballa and Carter Conlon. Pay special attention to the accounts of how God brought about the works. Then you can look further back to the revival that took place in Canada in the 1970s or even the work God did through Ravenhill in England. If you listen carefully, one theme is in all accounts which is a desire to abide in Christ. You can ask why didn't Ravenhill see revival in the US when he says God sent him. In your listening to other testimonies of God's workings, have you not heard of those labored for decades but never saw what they hoped for? Sounds like Hebrews 11. These are things God explicitly promised. If Ravenhill had remained in England where God had used him in the past, he wouldn't have been used to rebuke the American church. One last thought, the remnant who were exiles in Babylon, prayed, fasted and sought God, but God appointed a time for their return. Yet, through their time in exile, seeking God, they too needed revived upon return to the Land.

Jeremy221 you seem more knowledgeable about this than I am. I love Poonen's teaching, he has more insight than any other teacher I've listened to. but in comparison, the Lord Jesus Himself is fully Spiritual. how many of us can be like that every moment? he knows exactly what to say, and how to say it. because he only did God's will all the time. so in that way I agree with Kraufrau: to be fully Spiritual would be union with God's will and living revival. how often is "relying on the flesh" or "relying on the intellect" or "relying on theology" the problem? its so hard to be Spiritual because it takes painful takings up of the cross every day. and even then how short do we fall? see my point now? Jesus had to cry out and weep all night. God knew what was coming and prepared him with trial and testing. what a beautiful soul he has. we can have all Jesus had by following his example. but remember 10 apostles finally took a literal cross. its exciting to be in Christ. especially abiding. to fellowship with him. but also to know the heights we can attain to, literally giving our life for him and him snatching our soul up to his throne. wow.

What is walking in the anoiting do you think?

Probably your right that they are a 'golden calf' to many. But why do you think they are not holiness preachers? What is a holiness preacher?

Can you name what you think is a biblical preacher, that is trully speaking the truth? And what is your definition of a biblical holiness preacher?

Could you answer that for me, for clarification?

Hi wijnand

Walking in the anointing is walking in a state of grace which enables a man to be in complete obedience, that is without sin but it is more than this, it is complete union with Christ.

Poonan and Ravenhill although popular preachers and obviously have pastoral gifting, are not preaching holiness and will say that man cannot stop sinning in this life. Their standard is that it is what he should be aiming for and their bugbear is that so many in the church are sloppy in this, but they are really preaching an improvement of the flesh although they use words they have read from holiness writings. So they use the right words to a certain extent, and people like them because they think that they will beat into shape the ones who are sloppy but they leave those ones smug because they allow the false doctrine to continue that man cannot be without sin in this life and this is why they are so popular.

They certainly are not being persecuted by the church which would happen if they were holiness preachers.

To tell you the truth I do not know of any who are walking in the anointing though there are a few, very few old style holiness preachers but they are not anointed atm.

I believe "all things are possible to him who believes". I believe God can do wondrous things in someone who believes in "annointing", "second blessing", "entire sanctification", "baptism of the Spirit" etc. but God has to do it. for his purposes and glory. all we can do is strive for the kingdom (or strive to enter) whether or not he will do a special work with us

Ravenhill, Poonen, etc are blessed men of God who God used/uses greatly. over-comers.

Sister,

If this is your belief then I think you should not be interacting on the website because no-one would be who you deem "holiness preachers." So perhaps you need to find the group that is and fellowship with them.

On the other hand we believe that many preachers on this website preach a message of holiness not just in separation but walking in the fruit of the Spirit: Love, meekness, gentleness, kindness, self-control.

Greg, l agree that many on the site were holiness preachers. I meant those who are living today. Your site is of great benefit for sermons and writings of those who were preaching holiness and l am encouraged that members here are seeking the blessing. I don't know of any other site where there are genuine seekers. Of course l will leave if requested but did not know that agreement with you was a condition of being here.

You are a very divisive person. This is not the first post that you have acted like this. Your piety is evident and lack of grace, in the biblical sense, is absent. You seem to be a "know it all"...

Leonard ravenhill has led me to revival in my own life as I am sure is the case for many others over the years. He pointed people to Christ as we ought to be doing. I don't know you personally other than what you type on this website but you seem above the rest. God Bless you and may we all examine ourselves in the sight of God.

Rom. 8:16-17 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God; and if children, then heirs ”” heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if so it be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.

With all this limitless resource to inherit in this life, why then, O why, do we settle for minimum spirituality? These scriptures just quoted shatter all our excuses for carnal Christianity and explode all our feeble bumper-sticker excuses on bumper-sticker evangelism: "Christians are not perfect, just forgiven." (Some backslider must have written that one.)

Sinning is not permitted to believers. "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin." (I John 3:9) Not that it is impossible to sin; but it is, by the blood of Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit, possible not to sin. John again shouts the triumphant note, "Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world." (1 John 4:4)

God, then, has made it possible for you and me to have victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil!

Leonard Ravenhill certainly believed that is was possible not to sin by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

He marks the difference ”“ between purity and maturity.

Leonard Ravenhill’s background and training was Second Blessing Holiness. He trained at Cliff College, a Methodist Evangelistic Training college which specialized in open air work and witness. He conducted missions as the assistant to his mission colleague Maynard James who in principle believed in the charismatic gifts but who saw Baptism in Spirit more in terms of the death of the old nature.
