Golden Nuggets from Heaven

I am starting a thread to put truths that the Lord has impressed upon my heart as important. They may be simple and perhaps your familiar with some of them. I do alot of reading in addition to the Bible. I am particular of what I read. A few years back I became quite taken by the ministry of the Plymouth Brethren. There are very few Brethren churches in America and they are quite legalistic and fall in the "Shepherding" movement so they obviously have fallen and I wouldn't recommend going to one. But back in the 19th century they recovered truths from the Bible and taught and preached them. Their most notable figure was John Darby who is a noted Dispensationalist. He supposedly came up with the pretribulation rapture. I think that he wasn't actually the first to teach it. But I digress. I am more captivated by Brethren teachers like J.B. Stoney, C.A. Coates, William Kelly, Edward Dennet, Samuel Ridout, C.H. Macintosh, William MacDonald, Henry A. Ironside and others. These saints saw the precious truths of who we are and what we have "IN CHRIST" and how we come into experiencing this life practically. While our being sons and daughters of God is sealed by becoming born again, born of God, other things will not be our experience until and unless we appropriate them by faith in the identification truths found in the New Testament. I also found a 20th century saint who capsulized much of these precious truths. Miles Stanford wrote several books. The Complete Green Letters, Position To Person, and None But the Hungry Heart. None But the Hungry Heart is a devotional with short dailies of NT truths and is available online as a PDF file for free:

The flesh reasons that if your circumstances were only different you could have victory. But circumstances only reveal what is inside. Our insistence here is this: that "the eternal substance of a thing never lies in the thing itself, but in the quality of our reaction toward it. If in hard times we are kept from resentment, held in silence and filled with inward sweetness, that is what matters. The event that distressed us will pass from memory as a wind that passes and is gone. But what we were while the wind was blowing upon us has eternal consequences” (Amy Carmichael).

TW commentary: Isn't that a blessed truth! The testing or temptation will pass. The Lord many times does not deliver us out of the test but will give us peace and deliverance THRU the test. And if we get our eyes off of ourselves and our problem(s) and get our eyes of faith on Him, He will show Himself strong and protect and deliver us. As for the temptation and trial, this too will pass. It didn't come to stay, it came to pass.
I heard it once said the 10% of life is what happens to you, the other 90% is your reaction to it. Let us be humble and seek the Lord and use wisdom and discretion in reacting to life's challenges.

I have actually stayed away from "None but the Hungry Heart" and Miles Stanford for many reasons. There is a "character" on the Internet who calls himself NetChaplain and he plasters at least 10 forum websites with Miles Standford devotionals on a weekly basis. He comes up against resistance on most of the Christian forums.

At first NetChaplain sounded ok until you let what he said and what Miles said, sink in. He is obsessed with spreading the word of Miles Stanford.

He (Miles) also has some very strange notions about the "old man" and the "sin nature".

"Here you will find the musings of the late Miles Stanford, one of the last devoted guardians of "Pauline dispensationalism." Stanford held to several of the more arcane idiosyncrasies of early dispensationalism long after most dispensationalists had quietly disowned them as ill-advised novelties lacking any biblical support. Stanford insisted, for example, that there are two distinct gospels in the NT. He taught that Christ gave the apostle Paul a new and different gospel, not the same message that was theretofore being preached by the other apostles. In the mid-twentieth century, that same notion (which had percolated among Darbyites and Scofieldians for some time) gave rise to ultradispensationalism, and the folly of the two-gospels idea quickly became evident. What would you suggest are doctrinally sound books on these themes - identification with Christ, old man v.s. new man?

The Bible. Every man's teaching must be subject to the Scriptures, so why not just go directly to the Scriptures? Do others have a "big" Holy Spirit and you have a "little Holy Spirit"? The Bereans went to the Scriptures not commentaries, not the "learned" theologians of their day, but to the Word.

Today, few have confidence in the Interpreter (Holy Spirit) to open up the eyes of their understanding. Why do we have so little confidence in the voice of the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth, today?
