A dear friend's youngest son was married a week ago and I felt led to write the following sonnet and slip it in with our gift for the couple.
True Love
How beautiful is love when young and new
It fills the soul with joy and pure delight!
It is the will of God that two unite,
Led by His Spirit into marriage true.
Heav'n to their hearts its music does endue,
Thus to confirm the sacred bond is right,
Planned by the Lord, Himself, that these twain might
Serve Him together all their journey through.
Yet when life's storms upon them fiercely beat,
Leaving a wake of shattered dreams and pain,
And gold is tried within the smelter's heat -
Then naught is lost but everything is gain...
If love's strong passion burn within them still.
God's Name is praised! His plan did they fulfil!
