Do you know where your Bible is?

I recently read an article by a pastor. In the article he describes a young man who did not bring his Bible to church. The pastor asked him where his Bible was. The young man replied he did not know. He said he lost it. The pastor in fun asked young man if he lost his underwear. The young men puzzled said no. The pastor went on to explain that the young man have developed a habit a placing his underwear in a certain place where he could get to it. By this time the young man got the message that the most important book in his possession should always be in a place where he could reach it.

I'm afraid the above account describes many a Western Christian. Often times a Bible in a Christian home is on a coffee table for looks. Or may sit forgotten, gathering dust, in a desk drawer or on a bookshelf.

Research by Barns suggest only 4 in 10 American Christians read their Bibles. And the four who do read them spend only 1 hour per week. Again that is one hour per week reading the Bible. It would seem that more time is spent in the shower and certainly on the internet then reading the Bible.

A few days ago a video was shown where Chinese believers were very excited over receiving the first Bible. In the video there were tears of joy at a gentle kissing of this precious book.

One would have to ask what is this precious book to us. William Tyndale was burned at the stake for giving us what we call the English Bible. Can we in America be so casual toward his word while others will give their lives to own just a portion of this precious book?

Good point! A big problem is North American Christianity. Many who profess Christ or claim the title Christian are not. They have heard a false gospel and thus are false converts. When a baby is born and it does not cry, does not desire milk and is lifeless, that baby is dead. As with Spiritual birth, yet we find excuses for their rejection of God's word and make fancy titles. One truly born again will want milk "the word" (mature to meat), they will grow and most certainly pray. The reason many bibles go unread and sit as a dust collector is many who own that type of bible and fill the pews are not saved. They pray not and read not; because they are stillborn - never fully being converted by the power of the Spirit. Many are casual towards the word because they may know a little about God, but they do not truly know God.
