Just happened to see this the other day. It was so beautiful. I also wept. A very well written and acted piece, with Bruce Marchiano who did play Jesus in the Matthew series. Thank you Lord for some well-thought out and anointed scenes concerning the apostle Peter.

I also have this movie and it is a wonderful movie. The Jesus who plays in this also plays in a move called Encounter and evangelistic film called Road to Emmaus. Unbelievable films with a great biblical message.
I have a fourt part audio commentary by Bruce Marachiano with his testimony and exoeriences while making The Book of Matthew.
I also have The Road to Emmaus. I really like it probably because it is one of my favirite portions of scripture.

I bless God that you found the movie beautiful.
I mean that with all my soul. the problem I have with Gospel account films is two fold, either the lead actors are NOT followers of Jesus.....and one can tell....at least I can....or the lead actors ARE followers of Jesus, but NOT that strong in the craft...simply put, "semi-amateur".
How do I know?....for most of my adult life, I was a working member of the screen actors guild, and quite obviously there are VERY FEW followers of Jesus both within the union, and very few writers/producers/actors in the entertainment industry, which is obvious given the filth and junk spewed forth on the public, I have an extensive resume, 98% of which I have never watched.....and this was BEFORE I came to apprehend Messiah!
Arguably the most professional of all Gospel films was the "Passion of the Christ", which I saw only ONCE, because the Crucifixion was SO VISCERAL, GRAPHIC, that as the Spirit led, to see it more than once, would make this act of Jesus' love, just another blood spattered celluloid scene.
Plus, I wasn't certain, the actor portraying Jesus was a follower. I know the director Mel Gibson was old school latin only roman catholic....AND I KNOW , Praise God, MANY were brought to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ...when I went, the theater was packed, it was me and my pastor, we were praying for all the souls in the theater, that the film hit them like a ball peen hammer to the head. There was a row of kids, behind us, pre-film, just cursing up a blue streak......at the end of film, they weren't cursing, I can tell you that.Whether any of them went from death to life...only God knows.
and look at Mel....the devil had a field day with that poor soul after the release of the film....drunk driving, recorded anti-Semitic spews at the LEO's who pulled him over for the DUI's, then recorded conversations with his SECOND wife,which were ugly rants that sounded positively demonic....which kind of lets you know, that "Passion" did much to add souls to the Kingdom, otherwise satan wouldn't have tormented Mel.
"The Gospel of John" was great.....and I bless God for such a film, my complaint is two fold....I know the actor portraying Jesus TRIED very hard....but a follower?...maybe so, I didn't hear anything from him, that he is, but if ONE SOUL is brought to Jesus? Lets praise God for that....my other complaint was that the 12 apostles....weren't that strong in their craft, rather amateurish....meaning I caught them "acting"......that's the problem with some preachers....I can TELL when they're "acting"..."performing".
why is that a "big deal"?.....the few times I've taught...or directed....or counseling young folk, my counsel is this...."NEVER 'act".....just BE....be real, and that's real hard for people if they're in front of an audience or a camera.
i'm out of the entertainment business...God moved me out of it...I would have to say the one film that moved me close to Messiah, is Robert Duvalls "The Apostle". Once I saw it, I bought a copy, and remember saying, "If I was a Christian, i'd be like "Sonny" (Duvall's character...spoiler, minus ball batting the youth minister who was fornicating with his wife to death.
I don't know whether Bob walks with Jesus, but a young actor in the film, Walt Scoggins, actually Recommitted his life to Jesus......ON FILM.....you can see it!!! this dear soul is weeping tears of joy and repentance ON FILM...it wasn't acting.....and in the last 16 years, God has blessed brother Walt with a solid professional career, my prayer is that Walts flame still burns bright.

what Duvall did as director was smart(anointed) all of the supporting pastors, congregants were all God fearing, Jesus loving saints.
