Question

I have been thinking for the past couple of weeks about some stuff on here.

There are a LOT of sermons on this site with a LOT of speakers of whom I have never even heard.

Is there any way we can do a random "sermon of the week" and discuss it in a thread or something?

I know could always just download random sermons, but I probably would do it more often if I had some direction. Plus I'd get a lot more exposure to godly men I didn't even know existed. What do yall think?

Edit:

And I think it would facility more fruitful discussions.

I and others have tried to start discussions like this in the past. I think it's a shame that we've wasted such a resource as the sermons as a source of discussion and instead, many times focused on the run-of-the-mill topics that circulate endlessly on other theological forums.

That's not to say that there hasn't been any fruit, I've made many good friends in the Lord because of the forums. But I've also talked with many more who participated almost daily in the forums but who never listened to a single sermon from the archive.

Excellent idea brothers!

I agree.

If I can throw a suggestion out there it would be "called to die" by Michael Brown.

I think it would provoke some good discussion because the content is powerful but was spoken in the context of the Brownsville revival which some here have a lot of issues with.

I thought his sermon "Holy Desperation" was on this site which would be even better but it is not here (p.s. It should be).

So what needs to happen to get it started?

I believe a good way to start is for someone to post a thread about a specific sermon with some intial comments and questions. One idea too is to have brethren mention 2 quotes from the sermon that struck them in some way and for them to write them out.

Havok-

This is your idea and it's a good one- why don't you pick the first sermon to listen to.

Okay. I will try to come up with a method of picking a totally random speaker and sermon, because if we just pick our favorites then it probably will mean that only the popular guys will likely get listened to. Then I'll post the sermon and give us a couple of days to listen and then we can begin a discussion.

Okay, if you have microsoft excel, you can enter the following equation into a cell and it will generate a random link to a download. No guarantees that it will definitely be a sermon, but if you try it a couple of times, it should work.

Here is the equation:

just copy and past that into cell and every time you open excel or refresh it, it will be a different sermon.

Then you can copy the contents of the cell and paste them into your web browser.
