THE ELEVENTH CHAPTER OF 2 SAMUEL: A SMUGGLED AND DARK CHAPTER.

TEXT: 2SAMUEL 11

The eleventh chapter of 2 Samuel, is A chapter actually tainted with darkness and serious wonder. The name of God is never mentioned until the last verse. Even at that, we see God not pleased with all the events that made up that chapter. The major character in the entire book of 2 Samuel is David: all other characters therein, only finds relevance only to the extent that David is involved.

Note should be taken that David's name is mentioned first in the Book of Ruth then his full story starts fully in the sixteenth chapter of 1 Samuel. From this chapter to 2 Samuel, chapter ten, all that we see about David are noble and godly acts. Within this space, we see a man that is known as a man after God's heart: whithersover he goes, nations and kings submitted to him. If the story of David had stopped here, it would have been wonderful...if David had been called to glory in chapter ten, it would have been great.

However, the eleventh chapter seems to show us a different David. If all that we know about David are what is in this chapter, then we can safely conclude that David is a sinner and also a gentile. We see a man that is entirely corrupt and dead to the appeal of conscience and common sense in the chapter under consideration. It is A tainted and dark chapter of David. After this chapter, unusual and bloody things started happening to David. We shall hesitate to delve into the aftermart of this chapter until much more latter.

This minister of God's word, is of strong persuasion that this chapter of David's life, was wittingly and subtly smuggled in by the Adversary of destiny. So this chapter, it is safe to surmise, is a smuggled chapter. And the believer must understand that the enemy is forever nursing a desire to smuggle into our lives such a chapter that would negatively turn the course of life for us.

Let no man think that he is so strong and wise that he cannot be taken unaware by the devil: he that thinketh he stands, let him take heed. No man is an expert in the battle of life...our adversary is older and wiser than us...only those who exercise sobriety and vigilance can ever outdo him.

Friends, it is possible to have a chapter smuggled into our lives that would mark a beginning of serious apostasy. We should never imagine that we are invincible...for whatever is written aforetime is so written for our learning. Whoever looks carefully on this chapter would know that an evil hand actually sandwich this chapter into the scrip.

This is not the David that stood before Goliath. In short, in psalm 51, he cried out that God should renew a right spirit within him. It looks as if another spirit took over him. May we see scripture! We could almost imagine the devil having in his possession chapters to smuggle into our lives.

So, no man is immune from the test and temptation of the devil. The blood of Jesus and even bottle of anointing oil cannot grant us immunity against the attacks and attempts of the devil. This is his sphere and jurisdiction, he would keep trying...but the victory for us is guaranteed.

In this studies, having done some preliminaries, we shall endeavour to, through the spirit of the Living God, glean truths that would help us forestall this kind of chapter in our lives...these truths would close the door against the smuggler! May we accept scripture! Amen! To be continued.
