Jesus' "real" name

I decided to post this by itself. I had responded to a statement in a different post but after seeing some responses and not wanting to hijack the original post I decided that this might be appropriate.
Believe it or not, after 30 years as a Christian and having graduated from Bible college I discovered that Jesus real (Hebrew) name was Joshua. Translated through various languages it became Yeshua but Joshua (Yehoshu'a) is best in my estimation. Look at any Hebrew translation of the New Testament. Having learned that I discovered the New Testament message in the ending of Deuteronomy and the beginning of Joshua.
You see, Moses represented the Law and we know, in hindsight and through revelation, that the Law cannot take you into the Promised Land (heaven). Moses had to die, he couldn't even step into the Promised Land. Joshua can take us (them) into the Promised Land. Only the Savior (for that is what Joshua means - YAHWEH is salvation or Savior) can take us into the Promised Land. It is not by works but by faith. Its just so amazing that so early in the history of Israel we can see Jesus so plainly. God bless

Actually, Joshua is the Hebrew to English translation, while the Jesus is the Greek to English translation. Its that simple. They mean the same thing. He is Lord of all! He is the Lord Jesus Christ, the savior of all who put their trust in Him. I'm thankful that He changed my life.

I'm not sure that this interpretation is a good one. I agree that salvation is by faith and not by works, that is an eternal principle. It was unbelief that kept the Israelites out of the promised land; but I believe that the account of Moses not entering into the promised land teaches a different eternal principle.

The reason Moses did not enter the promised land was because he misrepresented God and became impatient with the people when he was supposed to speak to the rock. He was fed up with the people and they could sink or swim for all he cared just then.

The judgment seems severe but Scripture is given for our learning and I believe that this account teaches us the eternal principle that we can't make spiritual progress alone. The links are horizontal as well as vertical and Moses couldn't detach himself from the people no matter how hopeless they seemed. Remember how Christ returned to glory with the words, "Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me." I'm so glad that Christ didn't count me beyond hope.

Perhaps you misunderstand. I wouldn't say that we must interpret the story of Moses, the Promised Land and Joshua in this way. Its just that I can see the Gospel message interwoven in the Old Testament Scriptures, even in this small detail. The Law (Moses) cannot take us in but only by following Joshua (Jesus)can we enter in. Its that simple and nothing more.
I am also not suggesting that we must call Jesus by Joshua though that would be His true name. When we say Jesus our hearts make reference to the same Person, the Son of God. Its just so exciting to find a nugget of truth such as these. God bless
