The Great Forum

sermonindex Apr 26, 2005

Dear FriendsI am writing to you in regards to Sermonindex.net which I have come to appreciate as a means of enjoyment and leisure. Since SI is my homepage when I come on the net, I always take time firstly to see what the rest of the body is saying, before I open the morning email. When I first discovered this site well over a year ago, I relished in the delights of alot of the speakers, speakers such as Carter Conlon, David Wilkerson, Leonard Ravenhill, Aimee Semple MacPherson just to name a few. Over the course of time, I slowed down my listening pleasure of these great ones and have found myself engrossed in the forum. I have listened to of late Zac Poonen, which I have found to be of great fodder for thought.I am letting you know that I have not kept up with the integrity of the sites rules by applying myself around these great men and women of God with their messages that have changed their generation and still affecting those of today. My time is spent around messages that I have in front of me, and this forum. I occasionally visit www.timessquarechurch.com from time to time to see what our dear brothers are doing there and the recent message that our LORD has been sharing.I wanted you to know where my heart is and what I have been doing with my time when I am here at SermonIndex.net.Thank you God BlessKarl

Hey Karl,Thanks for the frank admission here. Just want to clarify something if I may here and primarily for newer members.I am letting you know that I have not kept up with the integrity of the sites rules by applying myself around these great men and women of God with their messages that have changed their generation and still affecting those of today.Actually after re-reading this... This is in a sense perfectly succinct, depending on which word one is to key in on; "Rules" and "Integrity", apart they could bring up all kinds of things, together they 'work'. Seems this might be applicable to many things in the last few days or weeks...Original wanted to 'clarify' the 'rules' aspect. That primarily it is one of ruling one's self from a conduct standpoint while yes there is a direction aimed at here 'contained' within these guidelines. The integrity that was waning is in the agreeable disagreements as well as the character of these mighty men of God preserved by the Spirit that lived in them (mostly full blown now! Hallelujah!)that we can all learn so much from and frankly have said it so much better, just one of the reasons they have been 'brought back from the dead'.Of course they are but companions and not to be exalted above measure, but for our day, they bring back that flavor of 'old time religion' and are just as varied in thought as the members around here, primarily though on secondary issues. At the core it is striving hard after the Lord, however that might be taken. Thanks Karl, there is certainly 'room' as the sections reveal but hopefully all of it is to be taken with the same consideration for others and the thrust of all that is aimed at here.If there was a starting point to all that you see and hear it would be from Greg Gordan who started this whole treasure trove, in his own words a sampling of the history behind all this:Webmaster's Testimony.Wow!!!An brief history of SermonIndexWhy SermonIndex? And if there was a launching point anywhere it would have stemmed from;"Why Revival Tarries?" by Leonard Ravenhill(Do note the links within, if one cares to)And speaking of that dear soul:Paul Ravenhill talking about his father.10 Ravenhill Sermon Recommendations.Of course then there is Tozer...Just a bit of a refresher 'course', thanks Karl again, you helped spring the memory banks even more. For what it's worth talking earlier this morning from a brother this came out of the give and take:'Perhaps we should add a disclaimer: "All are welcome; Please leave your weapons at the door. No knives, guns, bottles, photograph equipment, battering rams...attitudes, agendas, schisms, pride, ego, superior knowledge, sheep's clothing..." ' ;-)But do bring a shovel!A little digging around here will unearth some incredibly choice nuggets... and even a bit of humor, just maybe to hear the steam escaping might do some good in the realm of... Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
