Jesus is not passively looking to the Father, nor is the Father leering at Jesus, but the Father looks to the Son (who is fully God) acting in such a way that God is pleased within Himself! "I seek not to please myself but Him who sent me.” What is He doing? He is referring everything to the Father. He is directing His own gaze to the Father. He is directing us to look to Himself as God become flesh with the same relational dependence on Jesus as Jesus in the flesh has on the Father."
