Does anyone know of an addiction recovery program that is Christ-centered and Bible-based?

Celebrate Recovery is like AA but they meet in churches and usually serve a meal and then have singing and a short sermon and everyone goes to their different meetings.

I should have specified that we are praying about starting an addiction recovery program at church. Celebrate Recovery is being discussed as an option, but I personally am leery of the 12-steps program. AA boasts a 5% success rate and the man who devised the program remained a chronic adulterer and chain smoker all his life, and was more interested in seances and Ouija Boards than the Bible - so why is the Christian world so enchanted with the twelve steps program?

Reformers Unanimous and Alcoholics for Christ are also options, but both offer conventional methodology with Bible verses sprinkled on top.

I have begun drawing up a "program" called "Romans Road to Recovery" -- that is what I mean by "Christ-centered ad Bible-based." Is there anything like that already in existence?

Thanks LMH. Teen Challenge and Life Challenge both have 85% success rates, but they are one-year residential programs. You just gave me an idea, though: I'll write to LC and ask what their program looks like, if they even have a "program."

You mentioned RU. I think it is a fantastic ministry and solid curriculum and process. I differ that it is conventional plus bible sprinkles but I hope you succeed in what you are doing.

Like all things Baptist, RU is Bible-oriented and it is the most wholesome Christian recovery program I know of. But I got exasperated when I brought two friends to one of their meetings and they immediately got hit with the Baptist Tribal Initiation Ritual: "If you died right now are you sure you'd go to heaven? No? Do you want to be sure? Then repeat after me..." You know the drill.

Wayneman--yeah, that stinks big time. We discovered RU by divine accident: my wofe saw a billboard and the Spirit prompted her to tell me and we inquired further and wound up 3 months later in Rockford, IL at Reformers Unanimous training. We aren't baptist, so they would not let us use the name Reformers Unanimous. We called it Radical U so we could use the RU initials.

We did it from a heart that wanted to disciple people not only abusing drugs but in any habitual sin and also to mature those from our church who would submit to it. It is a dynamite discipling and equipping tool, IMO. But, I am laser locked on what you are saying about the IBF approach to people.

i have been a drug and alcohol counsellor for over 20 years and have taught nearly every program.

the only and best recovery i have ever seen and witnessed is when the holy spirit changes a person, it is so quick and no one is needed apart from people who are able to help with spiritual growth and understanding.

in saying the above, people can become free from addictions in most programs if they believe and commit to the program.

My personal opinion is "Moral Reconation Therapy" the program by its self is based on christian principles and will lead to moral changes of character a kind of exploration of what we have done to what we can do. the program was set up for prisoners so it hides alot of Godly stuff through its language in order to be used in government programs. i met the writer of the program who is southern baptist in beliefs. it does depend on who is running the group and who is in the group. i personally have taken my friends and family through this program and it changed their lives completley. i studied this program for 5 years against all the other programs and it stands out way in front.

teen challenges aproach works as well but has its ups and downs when dealing with heavy anti-social people. but it does help young people back into the community with good role modeling.
