I am Coming to the Cross

I am coming to the cross;
I am poor and weak and blind;
I am counting all but dross;
I shall full salvation find.

I am trusting, Lord, in Thee.
BlessÃ¨d Lamb of Calvary;
Humbly at Thy cross I bow.
Save me, Jesus, save me now.

Long my heart has sighed for Thee;
Long has evil reigned within;
Jesus sweetly speaks to me:
"I will cleanse you from all sin.”

Here I give my all to Thee:
Friends and time and earthly store;
Soul and body Thine to be,
Wholly Thine forevermore.

In the promises I trust;
Now I feel the blood applied;
I am prostrate in the dust;
I with Christ am crucified.

Many thnaks for posting this poem by William McDonald. I have searched for information about this saint, but could only find a Willaim McDonald 1917 - 2007, who has sermons recordered on this site.

It is a wonderful poem and I have copied it out in my spiritual writings journal and I do wish I could find out more about the writer so if you have any information I would be grateful to see it thanks.

It is a poem about perfection, as can be seen in the final stanza and the fact that the word Lord is used previous by the person coming to the foot of the cross. It is not what believers commonly call 'salvation' but a return to the cross after years of failure, and where 'full' salvation is found. A non believer never 'sighs' for Jesus in their hearts for years before they find fulfillment, only a believer who has not yet come into entire sanctification, yet knows Jesus in their head, but longs for holiness, knows this.

Praise God. Had been asking The Lord what to post and was looking through a hymnal my husband found for me at a thrift store (Sacred Songs & Solos compiled by Ira D. Sanky)...upon reading the first stanza of this one I knew immediately it was the one to share, but knew nothing of the author.
