Are you ever...

J
JFW Apr 5, 2015

Are you ever just overcome by the goodness and faithfullness of God?
Sometimes even when things aren't so great I am simply overcome by the mercy, the goodness, the kindness, the gentleness that we've been shown that all at once the feeling of my own undeserving and His unfathomable favor just overtakes me and I'm made to rest in a peace I don't understand.
.
Does anyone else ever feel this way?
If so would you be willing to share some of the grace you've been shown here as a testimony to our risen King?
Nothing is too simple nor too grand, any and all are gratefully appreciated+:)

Yes, I am often overcome by the goodness of God. Usually I notice Him in the little things, or when I look back and see the hand of God guiding my life even though at the time I was confused and did not know where I was going. He has proven ALWAYS faithful so that when I face difficulties I know that I can trust Him in them. And that also is the goodness of God, because He is the author and finisher of our faith.

I think that you are asking for specific examples, but there are so many little things that I have seen the Lord do in my life, especially the last two year since my husband died, I would not know where to start. More than anything I am overwhelmed by His love. He cares. He answers prayer. When I have needed a special rememberance of His love, He has always had someone remind me. He is always faithful, always true, even when I am not.

I am not sure I answered your question. I just did not want to leave this post unanswered. It is such a wonderful question and not one response to it!

May we remember that the Almighty died for us, that His Glory carried our shame, and may we praise His name forever more.

I read this post yesterday and have been thinking on it since. God has been
and is so good to me. I did not realize until just recently how often I am ungrateful for all that He does. Now i see how much He has blessed my life in every possible way.
Recently I experienced a very significant change in my life and as things were unfolding I was unable to see the good in it all but now looking back I realize God is with me through it all and everything that has happened is good because it has drawn me so much closer to Him. I am reminded of His constant care in my life and I am reminded to be thankful and rejoice in Him.

Time is so short the one thing I want to always remember is to take time to
give thanks in all things in my life.

JFW,

Hail, bro, from the opposite corner of our fair state. 😄

I have had those refreshers lots of times, too. Sometimes a seemingly impossible situation will resolve or minimize and He will breathe into me real gratitude. I love that. Other times, He does it before or during difficulty. Work. Home. Church. Thought life. You name it.

And, right now, hoping for and anticipating more. God is good, I am not, and He is justifier and glorifier.

Amen sisters!
And hey brother Tim+:)
It's always encouraging to hear of God working in the lives of others, especially people you know digitally but haven't actually met ha!
SermonIndex is such an interesting place in that people come here (as I have) for years on end and we get to watch and help each other grow tho honestly I've been more an observer for the past 6 yrs and this is actually the first thread I've started. Its intriguing to get to know someone exclusively by their relationship with God and their understanding of His word. It tells allot about a person, how they handle His word, wether they're humble and teachable or ostentatious and presumptuous. Sometimes people misrepresent themselves (without meaning too) in online forums and it was the purpose of this thread to give an opportunity to share what I hope we all have in common, a testament of His goodness towards us.
So thank you for your responses they are indeed appreciated.
May our Shepards voice become ever clearer to each of us and may our joy be in following Him~

Fletcher,

Thanks for posting this worthy thought provoking topic. It would be great to hear more testimonies from believers as a whole. Not only here but in the various circles we all travel in this blessed life and walk, giving testimony of our Lords faithfulness.

I will be 27 years old in the Lord on September 9th of this year. I do not have time to post ALL that God has done on my behalf for there is so much. The fact that God has drawn me to Himself through the faithful witness of His beloved children, healing me when I was lost to show His power, I guess would be a good place to start.

I have seen the salvation of many family members since coming to know Christ, had a marriage restored after 7+ years of divorce, received His Holy Spirit after 9+ years of salvation are just a few of the bigger things in my life.

One event I will share was asking the Lord to save my mother when I was first saved in 1988, at that time I not only asked Him to save her but that when He was ready to take her home that her funeral would be a testimony to our family and friends.

Everything I had believed and asked God for, He did so abundantly far above and beyond my finite little mind could ask of Him. The amazing thing about all that God has done for us all as His children that we can see in the natural only scratches the surface of what awaits us in the coming Kingdom.

For our eyes have not seen, nor our ears heard, neither has entered into our hearts the things that God has prepared for us who love Him.

I believe that the best is yet to come not just in the coming Kingdom but also that which precedes His return. I know revival is coming, I know there is going to be an outpouring of His Spirit like we have never seen, I know the Gospel is going to go forth in power and we are going to see many souls saved. The faith of many is going to be quickened and increased.

We have so much to be thankful for, praise Him for, and testify to others for because of Him. As one dear brother who is now with Jesus always used to say in his broken English, "He did it all, Jesus Christ did it all!"

Praise God!!!
And thank you brother David for sharing a part of your testament to His goodness and faithFULLNESS in your life and those around you:)
Indeed the riches in Christ are far beyond our wildest dreams, "more than we could ever ask or hope for".
Well I came to know Christ as my Savior while in prison in a foreign country some 18 yrs ago when I was 25 yrs old.
The prison itself was 300% over capacity and in a 3rd world country, so no a/c or actual windows... an interesting situation to say the least and tho I've always had an adventurous spirit this was a test I'm glad I failed.
Having been raised in the CoC and rebelled against the "conditions" and ran from God, when I heard this man of God proclaim the Gospel with such assurance, such unction, his words; "when you step forward today, you're not being baptized into any denomination, you're not being baptized under any fat headed egotistical preacher, you're being baptized into the Blood and Body of Christ, for that is all that is required of you for your salvation!" were irresistible to me I found myself leaping forward as I'd never heard it put that way before. We had made a makeshift baptismal out of a tarp and some pipes and when I came forward and after confessing my sin with my mouth and professing my need of a savior I had asked this preacher if he would allow the prison chaplain, a huge 70+ yr old Dutchman by the name of Mr. Peter Vanderbol, to baptize me. While Mr Vanderbol protested saying he wasn't quailified the preacher asked him if he had ministered to me and led me to Christ and when answered "yes" this beautiful black man of God from Kentucky exclaimed with a huge smile, "well then you Are quailified brother, for the Lord has quailified you!" It was a most humbling experience to be baptized by such a meek and gentle servant of the Lord. I realized years later that a prison was the only place I'd be still long enough to hear the Lord and it was a precious gift to be locked up, ha! It saved me.
Many years later after drifting away and back to the world I began going to a "seeker friendly" church (I kno they're frowned upon here) who had a strong discipleship program (created by the pastor) and I joined. It was very intense, very raw and very effective in leading you into a biblically based intimate conversational relationship with God. On Sept 21 2009 around 5:15pm while I still had never heard of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, while sitting on the back porch of my brother in laws house, after one of the worst days of my life and my subsequent apology to the Lord and asking His forgiveness saying;"im so sorry, You've been so good to me and I have nothing to offer you in return but me" to which tye Lord replied,"That's all I ever wanted,..Step forward and receive that which only I can give you, no man can give you, the baptism of my Holy Spirit" I was a lil freaked out, seriously, I'd never heard of such a thing and had thought I must be crazy cause it's raining so I said; "well if I step out there in the rain they're gonna think I'm crazy" to which He replied; " there is no one there to see you be crazy" and I said; "____Green is right there on the other side of this bank of windows and if I walk out in the rain he's gonna think I'm crazy!" to which He replied; "Step forth and receive that which only I can give you" I could tell He wasn't playing so I went out in the yard in the rain and went through a prayer model from discipleship class where I take all that's me in my upturned hands and pour it out at His feet and when I turned my hands and head back up to receive Him, He poured into me from the top of my head to my feet filling me up till it overflowed. I was completely overcome and tho it only lasted a short time I was frozen, scared to move, when you meet a King you don't just turn your back and walk away, you wait to be dismissed. As I stood there hands up, face up in the rain feeling awkward and He came and spoke in my left ear; "Son if you don't get out of this rain somebody's gonna see you and think you're crazy!" and He was laughing and I popped wide open and laughed and thanked Him over and over. He delivered me from drug addiction in March of the following year (6 months later) and He did it by giving me more and more of Himself as much as I could handle and He'd given me a voracious appetite for His word and I realized that I liked Him more than getting high and had to leave Him to do it, so I tried to stop and that's when I realized I was addicted because I couldn't stop I had to obey the urge and was powerless against it, straight up bondage! So He told me to "flush it" and I asked if I could sell it and give it to the poor, He gave me a look like "what do you think"- "ok well I can give it away" I said, "to who" He asked "well some friends at church?!" and He asked me this,"let me get this straight, those are your friends and you are gonna let me take the key and unlock this shackle from around your ankle which has you in bondage and the you want to put this same shackle around the legs of your friends?!!" "No!" I replied and He said "Flush it!"
It was a difficult thing for me to do and I said "I hope you appreciate this sacrifice, this act of faith" and He said "I do, especially in light of the act of faith and sacrifice my Son made on the cross" to which I said "you just had to bring that up huh" and He said "well it's kind of my thing". So I took a deep breath and flushed,.... and it came back up and I had to wait for it to fill and I flushed again.... and some of it came up again! So I got on my knees gathered it in my right hand and pushed it up into the hole till my elbow fit in the bottom of the bowl and flushed and flushed till it was all gone, and instantly this cloud, this fog is lived in for years that I was completely unaware of lifted and was gone. I just sat there crying and after a time I asked Him, "why,... Why would You do this for me?" and He said, "because I LOVE You". From that moment till now I've been set free by His amazing grace, His perfect love, His unfailing faithfullness!
It's a strange thing to be wrecked by love, but that's what He did, He crushed me with His love and I absolutely love Him for it and I have made a fool of myself for many things but now I'm made a fool to this world for His love~

You want something very simple? I can give you one...so simple you may wonder why bother?

It was 4:35 AM last Sat. morning when I rounded the bar in our kitchen on the way out to the car to go with my husband to a distant city to help our son sell ice cream. As I came around that bar I saw a water puddle on the floor. I was alarmed! (Children would say I panicked.) I yelled at my husband in the car to come in QUICK. He did. Upon examining he found a water leak under the kitchen sink - spewing hot water. He turned off the water, we mopped it up in the cabinet and floor. I turned a fan on so it can dry in our absence.

We left and did not come home until 15 hours later which is normal.

Imagine with me what our kitchen would have been like had this happened 5 minutes later? What mess would we have had to deal with 15 hours later had we not found it then??

All the way to Meridian I was filled with awe and gratefulness at the mercy of God in allowing it to happen just before I left the house.

Small, insignificant? Matter of perspective, I suppose. But you are looking at a sister who is overwhelmed by this demonstration of the mercy of God in such a little thing. To have had our kitchen flooded and all the damage it would have incurred would have been NO small thing. I promise.

Ha! Amen sister Sandra that's exactly what this thread is for:) Nothing is too small or too grand to escape the attention our Father has for His children. The thing that strikes me about this is the display of intimacy in your relationship with Him and His unfailing faithfulness. "Not even a sparrow"
Btw I have gleaned much from the sincerity, honesty, wisdom and humility you've displayed here on SermonIndex over the years and had hoped to someday thank you, so Thank You! You have certainly helped me grow in my relationship with the Lord as you've shared your walk with us in such a transparent fashion. I honestly feel like I know you as strange as that may sound and I pray you don't find my saying this inappropriate.
May the Lord continue to receive His glory in your submission to Him~

JFW,

I am weak, getting older but do pray regularly that the LORD would help me to recognize his voice when he speaks to me. Have also learned that many times we may not recognize it until after we did what we felt compelled to do.

I believe God is the creator of all and I can see the hand of God in his creation. Seeing it, loving it, appreciating it fills me with pleasure because I know God is much bigger then any human being. And we need to be reminded of this regularly - especially after reading the news headlines.

I am also aware that God orders our everyday living, our work, our successes and our failures. Through them He teaches us - at the least - that He is in control. I am so glad.

God bless you for the encouragement. This is what I believe we are called to do - encourage each other and you just did a fine job of it. Thank-you.

Sandra
