How do we get to know Jesus Christ more? Some of us pursue this relationship through reading the Scriptures more. Others by studying Christian doctrines. Others by following Church traditions and practices. But really how do we know Jesus more? It is spending time with him. Nothing must substitute spending time with Jesus Christ personally. When we mention "prayer” we can hit a roadblock as many struggle to maintain a dedicated prayer life before God. But really how can we know Jesus more, it is through daily intimacy, casting your cares to him, sharing your life with him, abiding with him daily. We get to know others in this world by taking time to be with them. Doing everyday things with individuals helps us to trust and learn about others. Does Jesus come with you throughout the whole day? Sometimes we find it hard to understand what Christian life is all about, what the Church is about. But when we simply follow Jesus and seek to know him more we will find our way to God and his purposes in this earth.
Gayle Erwin says, "If I am to know God, I will know him through Jesus. If I am to gain knowledge, it is deposited in Jesus. If I am to gain knowledge, it is deposited in Jesus. If I am to have wisdom, I will find it in Jesus. If God dwells in me, it is because Jesus dwells in me. If I wish to study God, I must study Jesus. If the Holy Spirit is active in my life, I will hear him speak of Jesus.” As we start to know Jesus more we start to become more like him. We learn to be a servant (Mark 10:45), humble (Matthew 23:12), become as a child (Matthew 18:3), willing to be last (Matthew 20:16), willing to be the least (John 3:30), not have ambition (Matthew 6:33), seek no reputation (Philippians 2:7), and being willing to be obedient to death (John 15:13). We lack genuine humility in our day, we must not pretend to be something but be real and authentic like Jesus. True humility is simply following Jesus and be real and honest with others. Are you confused in finding the right Church? Do not struggle to look at flesh and blood and things around you, set your focus back on Jesus alone. Seek to know him more, seek to be like him (1 John 2:6). As you walk in the shadow of your Lord or walk hand in hand with him you will realize before long you will be at the right destination, the right Church, the right situation in life. Spend time with him, do not come in pretence, but humbly and honestly. The Lord wants time with you, just talk with him as honestly and reverently as possible, casting your life and deepest cares to him. Whether its meekness, humility or compassion for others, God will help you become more like his Son.
