After I sat and thought for a long time
about moves both offensive and defensive,
I tired of them all.
The moves all meant complicated
effort to prove something,
arguing when it’s time to let words
drop into nothing.
Why care as long as faith sees?
That ease sounded pleasant.
So I put down this and that,
to open all the screens
for breezes through the house,
refreshing in smell.
Fence posts enjoy this all day.
Flags don’t rise and fall predictably.
That’s why we watch them.
